*TL;DR Constructive feedback on character creator*
Thought having a character creator feedback topic for people to put general constructive criticisms without starting a new topic might be a good idea.
The top 3 points I have noticed so far is: 1. Hair, accessory and clothing options available at this time. This is things such as no long hair for some blood lines, and the usual stuff like tattoos and metal plating, all of which will probably be available at some point.
2. Character keeps moving while you are trying to edit it. Really cool to begin with but novelty wears off after the first few accidental changes due to the head moving. Many a time I shouted "stop f***ing moving" at my screen, made worse by point 3 (below)
3. No undo button?? I mean seriously? I know that it was around on sis and would like to know where it went.
Apart from these 3 things it was....ok.... apart from the annoyance of having to try and get my character from 2005 to some sort of from that I recognise (kind of got there). If anyone else has any constructive feedback please feel free to leave it here.
note* if there is already a topic like this out there could someone link me to it (would not be surprised if there is) and if this is in the wrong place can someone move it, thanks.

In a future version it would be nice if we could lock certain aspects of the creator. For example, if I am happy with the clothing - lock that so it cannot be touched by the randomiser.
I'll blame the late night and my own stupidity for clicking randomise three times while trying to minimise the clothing window for that idea.
Yes.
Overall though I enjoyed it and it was a good experience. I wish I had more slots to play with it though.

could definitely use an undo button, and let it undo several steps back in case you try a bunch of changes that dont work out.
also please change the 'save' button to 'finish' or 'complete' or 'make final' or anything but save. for first time users from other games save means "save your current character settings for editing later" not make the current character permanent ha ha you just got screwed--> 20,000 petitions to redo character.
related to above, would be nice to add an /actual/ save-load feature that saves the current settings of your character's features and clothing so you can quickly load it back if you are experimenting with entirely different looks, or would like to load some successful settings onto your other characters.

Stopping the animation while you are customizing (or allowing us to turn off the animation) would probably reduce the lagginess for some people as well. - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

3. No undo button??
Points 2 and 3 for me. Let me freeze my avatar while I sculpt it, and an Undo button would be welcome.

The Future
We will be introducing the ability to repeatedly recustomize characters in a future release. The current plan is to introduce this at the same time as we release tattoos, scars and piercings so players can take advantage of these new assets. We are still in the early design phase, so we don't have any more details at present. Expect a devblog explaining more in the coming weeks.

I'll just add that it would be really useful if we had a 3rd step where the server rendered portraits are shown in all sizes, so that you could be sure what you actually look like in chat, profile and on forums.

added to list: ability to wink, which is something I have noticed while re doing my character.
and thought what with the controversial shirt thing I would add that as rethink the shirt decision.

Yes. Bad peripheral vision. Eyes can't be positioned completely. Leading to some odd poses.

Ok, well I made 8 characters and re-re-created 4 of them, here's my points (mostly based on edititing female characters):
1) it needs a manual/tutorial, preferably in pdf format. There's so many options that you miss a lot of possibilities. For example: you can move your character up and down by right clicking and dragging the background. Or that if you use the temporal view, it edits things differently than in the front view. A list of light effect options. The interface isn't that intuitive that you don't need a manual.
2) the female hairstyles are severely lacking. There's very, very few natural looks, many if not most are either bald/cyberpunk or very typical "modern early 21st century style coiffures" which not only look everything but timeless, let alone sci-fi (you will laugh at them if you watch TV in 10 years time, the same feeling as you have when you watch the VERY 80s Dune movie now) but also reduces your options as they're mostly quite ugly - even the old editor had more natural hairstyles. Look at the characters on the forum, only 5 or 6 hairstyles are used extensively, which is WAY too little. In the old editor the hairstyles were restricted to some bloodlines but the total number of styles was actually higher. Also: why don't have all bloodlines/hairstyles the same hair colour options, I may assume the future does have hairstylists too that can dye your hair?!
3) I have to add this one: the bloodlines still exist in name only, not in look anymore. A lot of people are very disappointed that they can't remake their old avatar and are forced into other looks (mainly eyes and skin tones). At least a free bloodline change would have been in order, if not a total remake. Especially as CCP didn't even try to resemble the old looks.
4) in the photograph section, there's two things: a) you can't move your character up far enough, so for instance the top of your hair is cut off if you want b) zooming in and out goes by steps, not seemlessly. Sometimes you want something in between, which isn't possible.
5) the old/young, muscular/not muscular and fat/slim options are not really working very well. It's very hard to make old people - and fat bodies usually don't adjust your face enough to make it have an overall consistent look.

Using the poses, I was able to move my character up quite a bit. It requires fiddling and a bit of luck (switching to and from pose 2 a few times, each time moving the char up usually works)
Also, zooming in and out can be done seamlessly in the same way as when spinning your ship in station: by holding both mouse buttons at the same time.
My personal number one gripe is that the sliders don't go far enough. I've been trying to recreate my old characters from their original avatars, and the mouths cannot be made as wide as they were. Also, the tip of the nose cannot be lifted high enough. This is especially bad with the eyes: I cannot make eyes that are not droopy, resulting in a character that looks completely drugged or sleepy. This shows the most when you tilt the head fully backwards, which I did in an effort to get rid of the excessive shadows in the eye sockets due to the single-source lighting.
Emotional options in the posing view are also lacking, imho. The mouth adjustment is very limited, so I could not get the slightly guilty or arrogantly amused poses that I thought my previous character portraits had.

The only two functions in the char creator I miss is in the pose view; to be able to reset the pose/light to default and to load the pose/light from the previous saved portrait.

**Character keeps moving while you are trying to edit it.** <---- this. It's very annoying.
And as someone said above, pose and eyes does note correlate.

Lack of naturally bald heads, there are shaven ones and the Picard do but not the complete dome.
Lack of smiling amarr.
Lack of trademark amarr earbraids among other racial markings gone buh-bye for blandness.
This message was brought to you by Danton Marcellus and I disapprove of your new faces.

The pose, lighting, background and facial expression in the portrait creation screen should be saved, and be the default whenever we get to change our avatar.
I dont want to have to redo it from scratch everytime I get a haircut.
