Ii was lost on what I should do next. That I was ratting in a carrier and everything, even that had become taken over by constant talk of kill boards and it made me sick / didn't want to play.
But that isn't this thread. I think I found something to try. I can fly a black ops,I just need to plug in in. It isn't about killboards because most of the time I won't be in the thick of things so I won't feel the obligation to ***** on everything/ game won't be all about kb for me.
The only problem is I have no idea really what they do besides just general knowledge. Could anyone who has flown bloack ops or flown with them give me some advise / how to's on this how to get into becooming a black ops guy. |

Some people just have the black ops move around with a fuel truck and a fleet member will light covert cyno -> blops bridges covert fleet on the victim's forehead. Then bring the black ops through and bridge everyone back to staging point and the covert cynoer goes out looking for another target.
Other use is bring the black ops into the battle. Recon pilot lights cyno and the black ops jump on to the victim's forehead.
The latter you need to be comfortable with losing your ships and personally I only do it with people I know I can rely on. You also need to move around quite a bit because people will try bait you pretty quick to get some blops killmail.

Requires a lot of patience, know how, etc. Also quite a bit of trust in your gang and what they can do, taking newb pvp'ers out in a black ops gang is one of those things that shouldn't be done a lot. Everything needs to be timed and if someone isn't comfortable in their ship then it's no good.
Other than that I love flying black ops when I can. Don't expect to be a killmail ***** in one though. Sometimes when the gang goes in, you need to stay alive so you can give the gang an escape route. So no fighting for you. |

How good would it be to AFK cloak in one? Or |

Unfortunately no, black ops don't make the best AFK cloakers. HOWEVER they have the ability to jump to a covert cyno, almost undetected, (or a regular cyno slightly more detected ) so while it takes more than one character to move 'em safely, it's pretty much impossible to catch a black ops that doesn't want to be caught.
Your main weakness is the fact that it can't warp cloaked. If you light a covert cyno on say...a ratting hub station, or in a random sanctum/cosmic sig/mining site/etc and just keep the black ops on-grid until you're ready to strike, this works as well. It takes more preparation, and a 2nd character (friend or alt) to get in position.
Once you're in position though, it's fun time. Black ops are the only other ship besides bombers that don't have a decloak + lock penalty. All others have to wait 5-30 seconds to even start locking.
Suggestion before attempting to gank: Have an alt, or buddy, within 5 Light years (4 with Jump cal 4) of your target system ready to light a GTFO cyno. If you're not pointed/bubbled and you know you're in trouble, or more help is coming than you can handle, try to get your cap above 75% and GET OUT. It's an expensive ship to lose if you do it all wrong, and an expensive ship to try and learn that method of ganking, solo.
This is a fun side project for just about any capital pilot that realizes "oh hey, just a little crosstrain and i can do black ops too! woot" |
