No. No no no no no no no.
Does square enix like driving Final Fantasy in the ground? Do they like repeating the same mistake twice?
I mean, they practically ruined FFX for me by coming out with an anime of charlies angels (AKA FFX-2), why on earth would they try and make a sequel to a game that had a pretty mehhhhh story to begin with?
All I will say is this. For the first time EVER, I will undoubtedly say that this game will flop harder than a pancake being flipped on a griddle. |

wait I wasn't even aware XIV was out, apparently "it scored an average review mark below 50%" that might explain why
and "Final Fantasies IV, VII, and IX are still remembered as some of the best games of all time" what about VIII

Edited by: Evansithe on 23/01/2011 14:37:24 The sad part about x-2 is that it was meant to be Rikku's story... and I think if they'd focused on that it might've sc****d by as ok, but damnx-2 made me wish Yuna killed herself good and proper in FFX :(
edit: censor picking up the word that means 'to scratch by' something. wut. |

But FF XIII's story is just weird, and unimaginative.
"We don't like world. World is mean to us. We can't escape our destiny. WE SMASH WORLD!!!!!!" End story.
I just.. meh... continuing XIII is just pointless to me... |

Some people love FF 8, mostly since it was basicly a love story, but it really wasn't a good game, especially when compared to other FF games at the time. Everything outside that lovestory pretty much sucks, so if you can't get into it, you're better of playing another FF game.
FF8 was a just a downgrade from FF7 as far as gameplay is concerned. FF9's gameplay was clearly designed to fix some of the complaints FF8 recieved. The whole ditch MP and go with a draw system was just an unnecessary and boring change. It just basicly forced you to drag on the fights, instead of just finishing them off as soon as you were able. The junction system erased all differences between characters, GF boosting system was god awful button spam and so on. All unnecessary busywork/boring grind, that all amounted to a huge downgrade in gameplay compared to previous FF games.
The characters were bad after playing other FF games. The protagonist is a whiny little *****, that you just want to smack in the head. The love interest isn't really likable either. The only good thing about her was that you could name her dog Anal or something similar and gain access to some awesomely named special moves like "Anal search", "Anal cannon", "Anal reverse" and "Anal recovery". Then we had the mentos smile boy, a sniper comic relief pimp wannabe, the annoying genki girl and the girl with a whip. None of them were really good or likable for that matter is what I'm saying.
The only good thing about the plot was the romance part, but the rest made even less sense than it usually does in FF games. Weird mercenary schools full of orphaned teenagers all suffering from memory loss, and the whole witches and time compression crap being the worst offenders, with horrible plot twists mixed in to make sure you hate every minute of it. Things like one time main villain being their orphanage caretaker and they all just had forgotten her. Really? Ugh, just horrible stuff. They also forget about previous points in the story when it suited them. The regular armies are in a central role in the early parts of the game, but disappear when things actually start to happen and they had an actual part to play. At least in FF7 the army didn't just magically disappear in to the background when things turned to **** and leave saving the world entirely in the hands of a few teenagers. Although why not, since the main villain isn't even known until the end and you get to see her for the first time pretty much as you enter the final battle of the game. Again, just a horrible way of doing the main villain.
I'm not saying other FF games don't suffer from some of the same issues to some extent, but they usually have other redeeming qualities to make up for sucking in the other departments. FF8 had a romance and that was it. If you don't care for it for whatever reason, the game doesn't really have else to offer you and is average at best. |

For me it'll be very hard to top Final Fantasy VI. That was my favorite FF out of all of them for it's story and the characters. Kefka was a hoot.

I could never get into any of them. Jap rpg games are just too weird for my western sensabilities it seems and the battle system seemed to be made for one button controllers.

Japanese games kind of died 10 years ago. They haven't made anything 'new' since then, only milking old franchises - Exceptions not withstanding, of course. Western games have been on the rise in the East for that matter, if i remember the sales figures correctly.

FF12 was pretty cool in the beginning, but halfway through it just became a hassle to play.
FF10, really nice intro but could only play a few hours before getting bored.
FF8 was the first FF game I ever played when I was a kid, to be honest it's one of my favourite PS1 games, up there with MGS and RE 1 - 3.
FF7 I played a few years later, was fun, a lot more comical than FF8... but by the time I got to Vincent I kind of just got bored with it and never played it again.
FF6 was awesome, really enjoyed that one.
