Whilst i applaud ccp's efforts to get rid of RMT and the banning of bots/macro users which supported this "industry" i do not understand what their stance on macro use/botting is for individual players.
I have never botted or used a macro but everyone has seen macro miners in hulks, the ratting macros in 0.0 and the macros spamming chat channels. Other people with more of an insight into this matter have suggested that the economy would crash without the bots and maybe 20-30% of players online at any time are bots? The drone regions seem especially efficient at destroying rats day in, day out for long periods of time.
While i do not have the scope to start a discussion on a revamp of the core PvE mechanics in eve i want to ask how does ccp view the problem of people automating isk making via bots or macros for uses other than RMT.
tldr;
What is ccp's stance on usage of macro's, botting or other automation of game play in eve online on matters not related to RMT.

Edited by: Othran on 26/01/2011 12:30:19 If it doesn't involve RMT or cause adverse effects to the server then they basically turn a blind eye to it.
I'm sure someone will say different but you go knock yourself out petitioning obvious bots (like ones that repeatedly undock and get blown up until they have no more indies in that station) and see what happens.
Nothing. That's the truth of the matter.

Edited by: laksmi2 on 26/01/2011 12:32:23 getting rid of macros would cost them about 100k accounts in other words a million dollar per month. any more questions?

If we read the EULA, there's actually zero-tolerance for botting and macro's, however, from server-side it is increasingly difficult to investigate reports about people botting or macro-mining.
It's a delicate issue, how can one properly inspect claims which are made by other EVE players about somebody using bots? -- The only way to effectively remove this problem is by introducing a modern type of captcha, but that is sure to bring an uproar in the community, since it's no-longer possible to idle mine.
We'll just have to put up with the dozens or so macro miners, I don't think the market would collapse, quite the contrary, prices for ORE would rise quite rapidly, since there are less resources to come by, mining could become quite profitable this way.
Another way to combat macro mining, is to close the cargo window, whenever a mining laser is activated and open it randomly in another spot on the screen, and prohibit the moving of ORE to the cargo icon.
Basically, changing the locations of these things would make macros increasingly difficult, it would not completely erase the problem, but it would at least keep most simple macros off the market. yay!

Incorrect, these acounts are ran using plex, wich means that them botters do not spend real currency on the acounts and do cause a load on the server. So CCP loses out on it in regards of profit and increased server loads.

Any means to automate the gameplay in EVE Online directly violate our terms of service, and (regardless of what someone might have told you) such behavior is not tolerated. If you suspect someone is breaking the rules, you are welcome to file a petition.
There is already a thread on this topic though, so I am locking this one now.
