Are there any corps / alliances that are using Battlefield 2142 to train for DUST
If so, I would be very keen to join.
I like the idea of futuristic multiplayer FPSs, and the long-term goals of DUST (and the teamwork trainining that Battlefield 2142 would provide).
I presume that Battlefield 2142 is the closest game to DUST on the market.
The reason I would be keen to join Eve players who are playing Battlefield 2142 is to get some practice: when DUST comes out, I'd like to 'hit the ground running' - I know it can be a frustrating experience to be beaten in FPSs. I want to train with a winning team. |

Sorry you would be over trained. Your grav tank skills ,mech skills, and uber piloting skills would be forever lost . This would cause S.A.R.S (Skill Atrophy Rage Syndrome) .
Which would then lead to P.A.G.D. (Post Advanced Gaming Disorder)
This would be aggravated while trying to play dust with the skill set you obtained from 2142. Trying to apply those fine motor skills to dust would wreak Havoc on your neural cortex, possibly damaging your motor neurons and possibly leading to procedural memory retardation for the long term .
so no i would not recommend it . |

So you want to practice on a PC game for a game that will be on the PS3? :\ I'd recommend you hone your skills on a game within the same platform, otherwise you'll end up having some issues when you suddenly switch from keyboard and mouse to a controller. |

Getting training injuries is worth it - ask any seasoned combat vet. I've heard tha sometimes people even die while training.
Last night , I suffered what could be the begginings of carpal tunnel syndrome - but if there is no pain, there's no gain. |

That's a good point - I'll see if it's possible to get a controller for my PC. |

Why would you train on a good game for a ****** game? Shouldn't it be the other way around? |

I'm expecting DUST will be better than Battlefield 2142 because:
BF 2142 is a 2007 game, DUST will be 2012 (better graphics).
DUST will involve the bigger picture in Eve - and this should affect my Eve characters. Because of this there is more incentive to have a long-term DUST team.
DUST will involve training skills rather than unlocks - this is a characteristic I like
CCP put more long-term development into their games. I'm hoping they might make mechs for DUST eventually. |

Well, it's actually funny you mention 2142. DUST 514 has a few Devs from DICE, the makers of 2142. I think.. One or two, anyways, they were talking about how they came up with the idea for Dust 514 in a recent article that's been posted around here lately, and how they wanted a big world to put it in when they realized "Hey! There is one! It's called EVE Online!" so they when they started working with CCP, they pitched the idea or something like that and.. Here we are!
So, I wouldn't be surprised if Dust 514 really is almost identical to the BF series, particularly 2142, or that it will actually probably be good. Really good. Just a shame it's on the PS3 though...
Also, if you really wanted you could easily hook up a PS3 controller to your PC and use MotioninJoy drivers, then use that to play BF 2142 to prep for Dust 514. Just sayin'. |

Fantastic!
Actually, I like the idea that DUST is on PS3 - it means I can use my PC to control my cap ship (to control the space above) while I use my PS to control my trooper on the planet's surface below.
My computer room is going to look like mission control! |

Battlefield 2142 was just a glorified expansion of battlefield 2 which even today shines for its gameplay.
I will remain skeptic untillCCP proves otherwise. ~ When everything fades away, an echo is the only sound that will remain ~ -á-á~ Chaos is a name for any order that produces confusion in our minds ~ |

I like the 64 player mode in BF2 and BF 2142. For this reason I prefer them to the Bad Company releases.
Also, the maps were larger for BF2 and BF, which I think made for more interesting gameplay.
I'm not a DUST sceptic because I think the ideas behind it are sound.
I am a bit of a sceptic when it comes to CCP's deadlines, but that's another issue. |

more like use the bluetooth/linux to translate keyboard/mouse to the six axis controller...and just have the superior setup for FPS's.

I am an ex-bf2142 pilot ... if Dust comes to PC (yes i know the official statement dont remind me of the horror) I got an entire Clan fans of 2142 that would migrate to Dust for the persistent gameplay.
If you want gunship tutorials here some of mine ;P
