My current fit: Which is stable, I have all relevant shield skills and shield comp skills at level 5. My ROF is 3.84, and I have tanked an 8/10 by myself, while others killed it. This shield booster has an activation cost of 90, with my skills it is 81. It has a base of 215hp and with the 2 shield boost amps it brings it up to 587.962hp every 2.72s. I would like to put a better shield booster on it but when I try, it is not stable, due to the activation cost. I have not been able to find either a skill or implant to reduce the activation cost, any help would be appreciated. Hi: 5x cal nvy hvy msl lau

Edited by: Kneebone on 26/01/2011 18:46:31 Gist boosters do less boosting for less cap, that is true for all levels of shield boosters. The question is are you overtanked to begin with? Part of the Tengu's strength is it's ability to keep moving under speed and tank the BS and above rats. If you are the main tanker and taking all DPS then really the only option is to upgrade from a C to an A or an X. If you put a Pith your cap will go to hell and downgrading to a medium probably wont work.
what I would say is look to your number of boost amps and hardners. Getting a higher resist and maybe running a single boost amp, plus 3x specific hardners, or 2x specific, plus one invul might net you a better tank.
There are two implants that may help was well depending on what you currently have plugged in, the CC8/CR8 (slots 6 and 8) which are both cap rigs. The other choice is going with a low grade Crystal set plus a blue pill booster. It could just be that the purpose of your life is to server as a warning to others. |

You can free up a decent amount of capacitor by swapping the T2 Afterburner for a Corelum one. You'll move faster, too.

With my skills that fit shows up in EFT stable with any large Gist booster, shouldn't be much of a problem to change up to an X-type. Your engineering subsystem and cap skills are at 5 right? Defensive sub skill to 5 improves tank a lot too.
Raising afterburner or fuel conservation skills might help. Activation cost at 81 indicates your shield compensation skill is already at 5.
You could change out the AB or as a last resort drop a BCU for a cap mod. The implants suggested above are good too.
If you're trying to fit a pith booster in there, dropping the CDOS I for a CCC I is barely cap stable with an all lvl V character.

also quick question, why a Nullifier if you are not also using a Covert subsystem as well? If you go through a gate and there is targetted tackle on the other side you are screwed. Anywho, I have the CC8 and CR8 implants with basically perfect shield skills and this is what I get. Cap Stable at 44%
Fit the hardner specific to what you are fighting basically
1485 Omni tanking, goes up a lot if you use the specific, over 3600 against Guri for example.
[Tengu, Test] Damage Control II
Republic Fleet 10MN Afterburner Gist X-Type Large Shield Booster Gist B-Type Photon Scattering Field Dread Guristas Invulnerability Field Dread Guristas Shield Boost Amplifier Dread Guristas Shield Boost Amplifier
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit II Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I Medium Core Defence Operational Solidifier II
Tengu Defensive - Amplification Node Tengu Electronics - CPU Efficiency Gate Tengu Offensive - Accelerated Ejection Bay Tengu Engineering - Capacitor Regeneration Matrix Tengu Propulsion - Interdiction Nullifier

As to your original question, the core defense capacitor safeguard rigs will decrease activation cost of shield boosters by 15% for tech 1

Cap stable at 39% with CR8, 45% with CR8 and CC8

Of course I'd start to worry more about getting alpha'd at this point than raw tank

By getting such a ridiculous tank you force to use cap rigs, while you should be using ROF and rigor rigs. On a Tengu you can get by with a complex small shield booster just fine.

Not entirely true for some of the higher complexes. The biggest danger to a Tengu is getting webbed so you need to be able to deal with the incoming DPS while it takes you a bit to get rid of the small stuff. It could just be that the purpose of your life is to server as a warning to others. |

Thank you Veronica, finally someone who actually read the question, cut to the chase and gave me a very good answer. Although the tech 2 is the one that gives a 15%, lol, but you were right spot on,it reduced the activation cost on the gist c-type from 90 to 68,85gj.
Thanks again

I have now upgraded my Tengu to a Gist X-Type large shield booster, it gives me 735.63HP with an activation cost of only 78.03gj. It is awesome, thx again.
