Sure this may have been covered, but in case I'm wrong....
Badger (for example) More capacity More warp speed Cheaper
Primae can hold 100m3 for regular cargo, then 1000m3 if it's planet resources (does this figure go up if you fit cargo expanders?), and 1600m3 for command centers, which you hardly ever need to move anywhere. Why not just use a standard lowest tier industrial and carry more and of whatever you like as well?
Am I missing anything?

It was only useful to new people getting in on PI when the ship was released, now, it's pointless, like all other 'gifts' from CCP. . . Here, sanity... niiiice sanity, come to daddy... okay, that's a good sanity... *THWONK!* GOT the bastard. Everyone has a right to be stupid, just some people abuse the privilege. |

It was also intended to be a Giveaway ship for the eventual IG Tutorial they were planing for PI way back, but that tutorial got shoved to the back burner and was then forgoten when they decided to completly revamp PI when they realised just how unworkable the original PI was codewise (the old live PI was more or less a cludged together alfa build because they realised that the way the planet polution/depletion/recovery modle worked at that time was going to cause more problems than fleet warfare.
It may show up again as a Tutorial reward if they do a full up tutorial for PI, or they may just give everyone another babyhauler
.end of line.

It's a "gag" gift item. Horse's mouth and the teeth and all that jazz. It wasn't supposed to be better than any industrial. _

Only two ships I have never even bothered to assemble were the primae and the echelon.
I sold the latter for 20m at Jita on contract the day we got them.
The primae I redeemed in the middle of lowsec. Inexplicably. So I'll probably have it forever now.

No, it's a really bad ship statwise. However, it's really amazing for station spinning. It's even got a little spinny bit on it, so you can spin your ship while your ship spins your ship. Pretty meta. _____________________ Look down. Back up. Where are you? You're on a forum, with the alt your alt could post like. |

And now let us pray.
Our Noctis, who art in missions, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy tractors run. Thy salvagers hum. In empire, and deep within nullsec.
Give us this day our large armor plate, But don't aggro the frigates, as we shall tank all that have not yet been killed.
And please die not to a ganker, but deliver us a profit.
For thine is the salvage, the modules, and the bounty whoring, forever and ever.
Amen.
tl;dr -- Best ship ever.

The primae was the lead in to the noctis gag.
The ironic humour multiplies with the number of accounts you pay for and the level of your servitude to the mistress known as eve.
Bonus points for having received more than 3 primaes.

The Primae is a spaceship. A spaceship is used to traverse space, much like a ship traverses water.

Well, if anyone doesnt want their primae, feel free to contact it over. I wasn't around for it when/if CCP gave it as a gift. I wouldnt mind showing it just a little love, taking it out to a planet, making it feel wanted. |

Ohh all three of mine are wanted. Same as the Zeph's, Eshe's and the Apotheosis.
Because much like land they don't make more of them. Ofc. If you were to make me a reasonable offer for one of them I might consider it. But... for free... no.

It sucks ye.
But ppl will hold them for novelty reason. Only problem in making it collectors item is that there are like a million issued to everyone and their mother, on alts too . So itll be several decades till its worth anything but its reprocess price.
I sold mine for 20M the first day it arrived. I was a real noob back then and 20M was 10 times the size my wallet, so I was really thrilled with it.
Regards
I.

Aww man, are you even serious? The Primae is the most dedicated ship in EvE. What other ship is so completely useless, except for one, very niche, job? One that it barely assists in doing?
For that, I use it every time I do any PI. It's all about the RP. There you are, in your PI ship. You're doing PI!
A serious answer, is that a Nano / Inertial fit in the lows will make it align and warp faster than any other ship that can carry 1600+1000m3. You get align times and m/s on par with a Destroyer (near enough).
Also, and this is essential, it's nice shiny grey cover works beautifully at showing the lighting effects in EvE's various systems off beautifully.
What more can you ask for from gank bait?
(also, at the Yulai live event, there was a Primae doing PI whilst, 120km way in orbit of the same planet, 300 battleships took on the Sansha. No other ship could say so resolutely "I am here. F-- you Sansha, I'll carebear to the last!")

They sell for ~15M in Citadelà it might not be the price you're going for, but at least it shows that some people don't want their Primaeà ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

The point of the gift ships is to give players a piece of crap ship that can do one job barely well enough for those players to try CCPs latest thing.
When wormholes came out they gave everyone a prober that isn't attacked be sleepers so everyone can do probing, see if they like it, and buy a ship that doesn't suck at the job. When PI came out they gave us the Primae so the newbies who lack real industrial ships could haul command centers and commodities around. Now they are giving us a hacking ship so people who don't even know what that is have a platform to try it out in before they buy a real ship.
Basically, it's for the newbies who can't buy/use real equipment.

My prowler would very much like to meet you... frigate align time, 4x the amount of PI cargospace. Oh yes and it can cloak well warping

Well of course a blockade runner beats it - I was referring to the context of the original post, which referred to T1 industrials
Still, my noble sense of fit-for-purpose deems the Primae a better PI ship.

It might also amuse you to note that you cannot deploy command centers from a Primae, so in fact its actually far less useful for PI than your comparison to a standard industrial - it cannot even deploy the items in its specialized cargo-hold!
