POCOs (Player Owned Custom Offices) where introduced with Crucible, but i haven't heard much on them since. Yesterday i asked a bit around and nobody was aware of their existence, which has left me puzzled.
Are POCOs being used? Do they play any relevant role? "We want your help to convince management to develop Incarna into 3rd person shooter dungeon raiding with friendly fire in nullsec space..."

In hi-sec with the NPC owned ones probably not but to my knowledge they are used everywhere else to some degree. Any Spelling, gramatical and literary errors made by me are included free of charge.

Change rocks. The one you're living under is apparently extraordinarily out of touch.
I find that without a good mob to provide one for them, most people would have no mentality at all. |

They are a nice source of income.
Also sometimes people attack them to get a fight from the owners. |

Confirming that POCOs do exist and conflict resolves around them. I used to have 4 of them and pulled in a modest profit from the taxes from them. That is until I gave intel on a gate camp the locals were running after which they took revenge by tearing down all of my in-space internet pixels. |

Yes, and Yes.

They definitely aren't used in High-sec, since you can't destroy the Concord owned ones to anchor them. ;) I'm kind of hoping this will change in the future, but I doubt it.

We really should get some POCOs in hi sec. Go on youtube and search for
"eve pvp poco"
and you can find some pretty good sized (for lo sec) fleet battles over ownership of POCO(s).
This one has 2 battleship fleets slugging it out for 18 minutes with carriers on field. In lo sec. Over a PI good.
This is what EVE is about, industrial warfare. This is what hi sec desperately needs.
EDIT: And lets look at CCP's taranis trailer!
So with POCOs PI finally does what it says on the tin. |

I can tell by this post, you don't leave high sec.
Go to lowsec, or nullsec and TRY to find a NPC PoCo. probably 80%+ of the PoCo's in LS/nullsec have been claimed.

Anyone who does any PI in low/null/WH space uses a POCO... paying 17% with the Interbus stations is flat out unprofitable.
High sec PI players have no choice but to use the 10% concord stations.
What % of the PI market is done in high vs low/null/wh? I couldn't tell you. However, as the CEO of a low sec corp with PI holdings, I can tell you they are quite handy and certainly are seeing use both from within my corp and from neutrals who live in the area. In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse. |

sure 10% or 17% is bad but its the prive you pay for not having to deal with lo sec grieftards.
ccp has made a griefing game and the poco is just another way of martking griefers able to win.

We charge 8% for neutrals, and 6% for blues. I won't give any details as to raw ISK income from this, but I can tell you that we have neutrals and blues who use our POCOs on a fairly reliable basis.

Low sec PI is not bad in terms of danger. A T1 hauler is cheap enough to be able to lose without killing your wallet. A few STABs and a tank make it escape many gate camps or random pirates. You lose more isk to CONCORD taxes than you do ships/cargo to gankers in low if you can get yourself a sub 10% tax POCO, especially if you do factory planets. In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse. |
