the recent spate of crashes to desktop while using alt tab or other dual client tools has been explained by CCP technical staff as a user problem because no server side error has occured. It was further stated that CCP does NOT support dual client play, especially on Windows XP or mac equipment.Perhaps the push to offer us special deals on second accounts is somehow supported by PC and vid card makes since CCP expects us to have more than one machine running to play those extra accounts.
If i have mistated anything here, please let me know. I will be happy to provide copies of the petition response emails I got when i report the crashes initially and pointed out the random loss of ships that occured (one left in combat, one in free space) I have plenty of ISK, i can replace the ships, but being told its somehow my fault because i use dual client sticks in my craw.
all of my corp members have dual accounts , all of them experience this problem. What is the official CCP answer?

add me to the list. alt tab causes desktop crash frequently with new patches/updates. Is this going to be fixed or is it working as expected? Am still using XP on this machine, but it happens on my son's Windows 7 setup as well. the Dorf

I currently play in fixed window mode and thus hardly alt-tab, but haven't had any crashes. (Knock on wood) ------------------------------------------------ There is no such thing as good or evil. Just an egotistic struggle for self empowerment. ------------------------------------------------ |

Rather than an actual client issue.
I would advise using Fixed Window Mode for multiple clients, due to the simple fact that alt-tabbing with fixed mode is a simple switch between active windows and they stay in memory constantly so alt-tabbing is quicker and leaves your system more responsive.
I run 4 clients in Fixed Window Mode (and before simply windowed mode) and have never had the client crash on me. I would never use fullscreen mode for ANY application if I forsaw having to alt-tab to another application on a regular basis. ------------------------------------- The system issues man. |

Edited by: Antiria Archurian on 31/01/2011 04:37:58 Two clients, two monitors or one monitor, no problems ever. I often run two client on separate monitors plus Netflix, plus many, many browser windows. Rig specs below (pretty decent rig I think): Core 2 Duo Windows 7 x64 8 GB RAM ATI 5750
So it may be client/hardware issues.
EDIT: Sorry, I run one client in fixed window, one in windowed mode.

I run 2 clients on 2 monitors in windows mode (win7 64-bit) and no problems at all. I control both clients simultaneously, so using full screen and alt-tabing every 2 seconds would be pain. Only problem I have after last patch is that after switching control to other window, you have to left click that window first and than you can "ctrl+LMB" target something. I hope it will be fixed soon.

Edited by: TorTorden on 31/01/2011 14:01:18 Edited by: TorTorden on 31/01/2011 13:58:30 There is a setting for that in windows itself, at least in w7. control panel and search for 'mouse works' my address line for it looks like so: " Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Ease of Access Center\Make the mouse easier to use ".
and there is a check box for "Activate a window by hovering it with the mouse".
After testing this a little, it does work but as a I suspected there is a small delay for the focus to shift.
