Hello people,
i've recently trained to fly a Golem including support skills. Till now i've been doing L4 missions in a Tengu for a Fed Navy agent. Problem is that Golem has a pretty crap range, compared to Tengu, but can salvage/loot on the way. I've noticed that if i get an Angel mission, rats tend to spawn closer and move up close, compared to Serpentis (am i right here?).
So...is it just me, or is a Golem actually better for doing Angel missions than Serpentis? What about isk/h, loot, LP etc ? Moving all the ships and assets to another agent takes some time...so i thought i'd ask beforehand :)
Thanks for your thoughts. |

Mission rats have characteristics to each faction that makes them their own animal.
Angels like to fly in close, including the battleships. Serpentis like to hang out, but also like to jam you into boredom.
I'm not thoroughly versed in Missile boats, but I would guess you might get better range out of an alternate launcher. Friend of mine ran a Golem in 4's in Amarr space and never had issues but I think he was also using HAM's.

Golems are good vs Blood/Sansha (4 hardeners config), and perhaps Serpentis as well. It has issues vs Guristas (low sensor str and generally longer orbits) and Angels (low sig and fast ships which affect effective dps).
If you're going against Angel, you'd want a projectile boat like the Machariel/Vargur or Minmatar T1 BS. |

One possible way to mitigate the dps issue when running Golem (torp) vs Angels is by to modify the 3 slot EW - 2 painters (minimum needed), 1 FACTION web (up to 15km). I've personally never tested the practicality of re-fittting a web for Angels, as I rarely get Angel missions in Amarr space. When I do, it's usually CNR swap time.
Edit: Ack misposted with another post. This was supposed to be an append to the above. |

Thanks for your thoughts. Tbh even though i theoretically miss some dps on angels due to their speed, i'd say i still win more than swapping ammo on those far-orbiting serpentis ships. And regarding TP, i am using a 3 painter setup.
I've never thought about running amarr missions because of them using neutralizers and me active tanking. But perhaps they don't neut as much :| |

I typically run 4x hardeners, 2x painter setup for Sansha/Blood missions. The 3rd painter is almost redundant for these NPCs with Standard/Javelin Mjolnir. Don't bother using Rage torps, you'll need a mandatory webber to hit consistently with full dps.
As for neuts, well, the Golem can be configured for a perma-tank with deadspace medium shield boosters. It'll withstand neuts from 2x Tower III easily for a few minutes. Neut is almost never an issue in practice, except possibly the Blood L4 Blockade. Whether you warp off or stay in pocket here depends on how fast you can kill the Blood elite cruisers (which normally takes 4-5 full torp volleys to kill).

Angels are pretty easy to shield tank. You can run AE with 5 TPs, Pithum C-Type MSB and an explosive hardener with little concern.
