I am thinking that the new avatars will be the old ones one day. All the nonsense will be forgotten and there will be new nonsense with the next generation. Perhaps the next generation will be 3D animated avatars and people's avatars will be moving around in the little frame, shaking their heads, rolling their eyes, doing poses, etc.

I miss my face and my see-through shirt. All my alts so far have been soulless and bland, I can't bring myself to kill the mental image of Danton Marcellus aka Face.

The old original character portraits were cool, however the new character creation has made the portraits more lifelike and less 'toonish'.
Course some players opted to have their character go through complete facial reconstruction.
I started out like that with this character which I plan on redoing since I've seen a few other player's bring their original old characters to life with the new character creation. Here's some of my characters that I've completed so far.

I'm reminded of the old portrait everyday that I log into my old version of Evemon. Then again I spent about 5 mins on it, like I did this one.

Obviously I have not redone my avatar picture yet...
While the newer pictures are (sort of) nice, the older pictures were distinctive among each race. A quick glance gave an almost positive hit on the race: Amarrians = hooded, Caldarian = militarist, Gallentean = flashy, Minmatar = tattoos and tribal. Not too many appear as hardcore killers of old, but as beauty queens beyond their prime. And everyone seems to have a sheen on them, plastic and waxy.
I guess I'll get used to it. But at least I still have my old EveMon pictures to stare at...

Nah, if you're about to do a male portrait you can fairly easily do a distinctive portrait. Females are much harder to project an image of distinction. It's possible, but you're going to have to work harder at it. And the interface sucks a$$ if you didn't know.

EVEmon and EVEboard both use the old portraits.
On some I'm happy with the new ones but I still have a bitter taste in my mouth that we were forced into looks we never picked in the first place if we could choose now. Until we can change bloodlines for plex or free I'll always hold a grudge against CCP for this.

When i look at the old avatars .. I feel nostalgic because Whitehound was a smiling Gallente chap then and not a grumpy old man yet.
