So, I want to start up a POS in .5 High-Sec and I need my standing with Caldari State to be at least 5.0, how should I go about doing this? It's already 1.3 after running missions and whatnot, but is there a faster way?
I read COSMOS and whatnot boost it quickly. I've never dealt with the whole COSMOS missions before, are they like normal missions you run for station agents?
Anyways, any help and recommendations are appreciated!

Some of them are like normal missions and others are just hand in tags for faction gain. If you dont mind buying tags you can get fast faction game by buying tags. You can only do each of the tag turn ins once I think.

All the COSMOS agents are in space, here are a list of them.
Keep in mind the following:
1. these are only one time missions regardless if you are successful or not 2. most of the missions are somewhat harder than normal mission, I'd say that the difficulty of a level 3 COSMOS mission is somewhere between a normal level 3 and 4 and they usually give a much better reward 3. you have 1 week to finish a mission after you contacted the agent, once you spoke to an agent, you have no other choice, you have to either complete the mission or you'll miss the opportunity for good 4. a lot of agents require you to finish a mission for an other agent before he gives you his mission
You find detailed information from all the missions here. Although it's in german, you can use google translate.
Or you can just use a datacenter for buying you higher standings (those are one time opportunities too).

Have ten people mission for you in the same fleet. The tag turn-in agents also provide a fast track to elevated Caldari standings (datacenter agemts). You buy tags, turn them in with the agents and watch your standing skyrocket.

Will doing these Data Center missions bring me from 1.8 to 5.0?
Also, if anyone knows, do I need to be in a Corp to place a POS in High-Sec? Or can I do it by myself?

It's possible.

You need a corp. Only a corp can own and anchor POS-es. Also only the corp standings towards the given faction matters when you anchor your POS.

combination of: rookie mission arcs, SOE epic arc, faction warfare, COSMOS, tag datacenters
note that COSMOS and datacenters have minimum faction/corp requirements for higher level missions and tags. ________________________________ : Forum Bore 'Em : Foamy The Squirrel - [jedi handwave] "There is no spoon." |

If data centres and COSMOS are too difficult or expensive for you, there is always the option of spamming courier missions to cycle through Storylines quickly. I'd suggest running L3 couriers as there are far more L3 courier agents than L4 so you can mission for 3-4 of them at the same time and can use a speed fitted cruiser or small industrial.

I think it would work in an FW corp. You gain corp standing and along with it you get promotions. You can go from 1.0 to 7.5-ish in a few days.

Other than grinding regular missions for storyline missions, the fastest way to increase Faction standings is by completing missions for Event_Agents which I have listed in the Faction Standing Repair Plan. The 'Plan' also has Cosmos and Epic Arc guide links.
Factional Warfare for Caldari Militia might help if you don't care about trashing your Gallente, Interbus and Minmatar Faction standings. This will certainly cut you out of being able to travel safely through those Empire Factions space.
There are a few stipulations that all pilots considering to enlist need to keep in mind before signing up.
1. You will be at war with your chosen factionĘs enemy faction militia. Pilots enlisted into the enemy faction will be able to open fire on you without CONCORD interference.
2. Entering the high security systems (0.5+) of the opposing faction will cause the navies of that faction to attack you.
3. Any entity, pilot or corporation, is required to have and maintain a standing of 0.5 or higher with the faction they intend to enlist for and to remain enlisted. Note that social skills are not taken into account for this requirement, only the raw unmodified standing counts.
