Some ships, like interceptors, have a higher warp speed than others. But that advantage is often not a factor when chasing someone.
A warp consists of aligning, acceleration to max warp speed, warping at max speed and decelerating to zero speed. Because the systems are realtively small and the gates are in most cases relatively near to each other, the majority of the warp time consists of accelerating and decelerating. All the ships have the same acceleration rate (I know they have different align times but still) therefore the inties higher warp speed doesn't count that much.
So I suggest the inties (and maybe innterdictors or some other ships with a similair role) should have their warp acceleration increased. Those ships would be really more useful and fun to fly with this change.
I must admit I haven't thought this through really so there maybe some drawbacks, but that is why we are here on the forum right? ;)

I was going 17 jumps in Orca followed by a Drake as a security measure (my corpmate). Lets just say, I arrived to Jita first anyway, because I started my journey first, he started to warp after my orca gone to the first warp (so it was 6-8 seconds behind).
Ridiculous...

The devs have already said (somewhere) that they'd like to do this in order to give moer benefit to warp rigs and certain ship roles. However apparently the code this involves is very old, obscure and affects several key game mechanics so it's something they're hesitant to change.

In September, CCP Greyscale had this to say:
Originally by: CCP Greyscale Yup, this is something that irks us greatly, but the code handling this is buried fairly deeply in Destiny (the physics simulation) and we haven't had time to dig in and figure out how to tune acceleration rates (or better yet, make them a stat rather than a constant). There's also the issue that there's some fairly complex code in there, and the people best qualified to fiddle with it are currently busy with the whole "lag" thing.
