How exactly does this sell work? Does it just sell the the highest buy order available anywhere in the system, region, galaxy? I assume its probably only within like 1 system or 2 away from where you are...
Is tehre a way to easily sell items to a buy order several jumps away? Like could I be 4 jumps outside jita or rens and just right click sell item and be sure it was going to the highest buyer in the trade hub?

When a buy order is created, either by player or by NPC, one of the values that must be entered is "range". Range determines how far from the station in which it was set up a sell order will be considered valid.
When you press "sell item", the buy order which you sell to must meet 2 conditions (listed in order of importance): 1, you not be farther from the station it was created in than the "range" value. 2, it must be the highest buy order of the above group.
There is no way to access a sell order if you are outside of its range. You'll have to fly your items to within the range. ----------------------------------------------

Thanks Esna...
I kinda thought the Marketing skill looked like it did what I wanted... but after thinking about it... i guess it just lets you sell items from your "Assets" window even if they are several stations or jumps away from where you actually are.

It's always up to the buyer to decide how far he's willing to travel for any transaction, whether it's buy order range, or what sell order he buys from. As a seller, you can either move your item to your buyer, or use a price and qty to entice buyers to come to your order.
One thing people don't realize about the market is that it ALWAYS uses the best order in range. So a right-click -> sell -> ok, will always sell to the highest green buy order. Buying from a sell order higher than the lowest price in that particular station will go to the lowest order at the higher price. Setting up a sell order for an amount as low as any in-range buy order or vice versa will automatically fill both orders.
