Atm I'm running a t2 mega pulse apoc for amarr missions. However, I do love minmatar and do have higher skills with projectile so was wondering if a maelstrom with t2 1200 and t2 dual 650s would be better than my apoc.
EFT says I would do comparable dps, higher volley, and better shield tank but EFT is no substitute for real experience. So what do you guys think?

Well I'd go 8 T2 800mm AC's on a Mael but that's just me :P I'd stay with the Apoc (Maybe move to a Abby tho ;)) Because it naturally has better resists against Amarr and Lasers are better vs. Amarr then Emp Ammo. Just my Opinion.

Use 800s for the Maelstrom
I've never used a Apoc so i really have no frame of reference but i've been using a maelstrom with 800s for about a week now for a little isk making running missions and it's goes trough them quite fast
High: 8x 800 II's Mid: tracking comp, large shield booster, amp, 3 mission specific hardners Low 3x gyros 2x tracking enhancers
Rigs 2 CCC 1 (don't remember the name) projectile rig for falloff
I used to swap out the 800s for 1200 for long range missions but it was kinda pointless with T2 ammo you will still hit at around 60-70km anything that gets within 20km of you just melts. Compared to the Raven i used before this it's not even close this ship goes trough the mission in about a 3rd of the time, doesn't have a great tank but you honestly don't need more then this with the kind of damage this thing does

I use a Maelstrom with 8x t2 800's and mostly t1 ammo (cheap).
They all melt in mission.

As mentioned..
A) Use 800mm's on maelstroms(and even more so vargur/machariel) B) Apoc will be better on most amarr missions, while there are exceptions. Nothing forbids you to have one of each. C) Never ever mix guns. D) Volley damage is generally a bad thing for pve. Parrots, commence!

t2 pulse apoc is much better for blood/sansha, and probably drone/merc missions. I mean if you have skills for t2 lasers you can't really have better projectile skills.
and to make a mael competitive you NEED a t2 rof rig, the burst aerator II, I mean fighting in falloff isn't awesome, but acs can get such crazy falloff it doesn't hurt that much.
the mael isn't that bad with 1400s either, but it isn't all that awesome either, runs into tracking problems plus the rof is pretty bad.

Had same experience. Raven pales in speed compared to most other ships.

I have lvl 4 pulse specialization but have lvl 5 arty specialization so thats why I was asking. How can I have these skills but still ask this question? because its been a long time since I've really played.
Anyway, I tried out a 1200 mael since I was fighting blood and it didn't seem to do so bad. Here are my opposing setups(all T2)
Apoc:
LAR x2 hardener x 2 Heat sink x2 1600 plate
cap recharger x 4
mega pulse x8
no rigs
Mael:
PDS x3 gyro x2
Large shield boost shield boost amp 3 hardeners 100mn AB for AC / large shield extender for 1200(cpu is too tight for tracking computer)
1200mm/800mm x8
3 falloff rigs

The cool thing is that 1400's shoot so slow that you can always use republic fleet ammo and the alpha is devastating. Add 3 sentries and you have well over 800 dps at 35+ km. You need to have perfect fitting skills + pg implant for that fit though, try to downgrade the cap booster to named or the PDS to RCU.
Needs good manual piloting though and is tedious if you land close to enemies.
Edit: acs are **** on mael, its way too slow to chase anything down and unbonused falloff sucks balls. The ship has an enormous powergrid and is so immobile for a reason: it needs arties.
