Ok long story short, I bought a laptop the Tuesday the week just gone, tried booting it up today only to get the welcome screen hanging non-stop, after a bit of digging I found a little hint on the Microsoft website about booting MSCONFIG up and disabling all boot up services that arnt windows, it worked and after rebooting a couple of times ( thinking that it might give out on me again ) it seems to work fine now.. I really do hate vista -.- But I don't want to take the chance of putting W7 or even downgrading to XP at the risk of screwing my laptop lol!
Not much point to this post just a rant really

If you do end up ditching it, just get Win7. It's so much better than XP, and miles ahead of Vista.

You aren't going to screw your laptop by installing another OS!
Vista isn't so bad now, chances are your laptop manufacturer put all sorts of pointless **** on there you don't need, as they tend to do. Kill it all with fire. -

The only microsoft os that is worse than vista is windows millennium edition, so there isn't really any risk of screwing it up further.
Personally I'd install archlinux, but since you seem like a windows person I'd recommend windows 7.
Also, as mentioned in a previous reply : laptop = manufacturer puts lots of crap on it = takes ages to get rid of it.

You bought a laptop a week ago that came with Vista? I didn't think new PCs were being sold with vista.
Regardless, I'd upgrade it to Win7 yesterday. Win7 >>>> Vista.

Sorry, but...
Clearly the user configuration and NOT Vista was to blame for your hang-ups at startup. You fixed it, good for you, but why come on here and complain about Vista - XP, or any other operating system would have done the same had it been loaded up with crap from a previous user or system manufacture. If you can't handle this sort of open configuration capability (and trust me I know it's a pain when these things come loaded with **** on them) you really need to look into Apple products, though Apple products are more expensive and don't take kindly to being punched either.
Second, 2000pounds for a "good computer"? Try one third to half that.
At least make your rant sensible. Vista isn't the best thing MS ever put out, but right now this is a clueless-angry (punch-my-computer) troll post not worthy to be called a rant.

Hope it works well for you going forward. Windows 7 is a bit better, but once you turn off user account control, Vista is pretty reasonable as long as you have 2GBs or more of RAM.
it has 4Gb
