Is anyone aware of a trade window exploit?
I was in a trade with a player for some bps and miscellaneous items. The player initiated the trade box, loaded the items. I placed the amount of ISK as agreed. The other player accepted. I pressed accept and it immediately came up with a message saying the trade was canceled. While trying to figure out if I had hit the wrong button, and I was certain that I hadn't, I sent the player a message asking what had gone wrong. About this time I noticed my wallet flashing..AND the player logging back on. I had placed him in my addressbook to track his being online earlier. I checked my wallet, it was reduced the amount of the trade, and there was nothing in the ship hangar or the items hangar.
Exploit petition has been submitted. Anyone else been burned yet?

Way past that. Refresh, log out, log in, etc. Was nothing there.
It was suspicious when it occured and the lack of communications with the player from that point on implied a deliberate act.
I have given CCP all the specifics, much more than you might suspect available, to investigate this. It is certain to me that it was an exploit and that I was taken for the money deliberately. I have some ideas as to how it may have been done, but I'm damn sure not going to post them here.
Our corporation was screwed by the applicant approval process feature early on, by the stuck blueprint process and now by what appears to be a clear exploit of the trade window. We were told, too bad, too sad...sorry we need proof, sorry our logs dont work, no recourse for you. I'm hopeing that this isn't the case again. _______________________________________________

Sounds alot familiar to a situation I was in. I was selling a thorax to a customer through the trade window. I placed the ship into the trade slot and he put in the money in the offer slot, but before I could press except, he would cancel the trade. He did this several times, and was giving lame excuses that his trade window would not accept. I told him just to give me the money through the communication option and thats when he stopped canceling the trade and the trade was complete.
My Guess is, he was either trying to do some bug I am not aware of, or we was trying to be slick by placing the money in there, and before I could accept, he would quickly take it out and he pressing his own accept button, trying to get a free ship.
I hope your situation is different and can be traced...Good luck.

Biggest problem for me is that trading was my favorite part of the game.
Now I know that it can be exploited, so how can you approach any ingame trade without worrying that you are about to be robbed. I'm not talking the trivial transactions, I'm talking about buying that "WTS Thorax BP Copy" and press trade to drop 25 million or so. I was just robbed of over 6 million, so we aren't talking about ammo change. _______________________________________________

Put the isk in the window. Wait for the player to click accept Quickly shift drag the all but 1 isk out click accept
The player will think that they must not have hit accept properly and re-click the accept, they get 1 isk, you get the item. _____ m0o

Don't take this personally, Axelay. But if we ever do business, we'll have to find a neutral 3rd party for this reason ;)
But back on topic, I'm highly suspicious when trading with anyone. Some people have built up a pretty good reputation and those are the best people to deal with.
Price gouging is a different story however ;)

Signatar,
That guy was trying to pull the EQ trade window crap. It's simple, anytie someone does that, and say' it's my trade window, it isnt working right" they are lyign and trying to scam you.
Have had it happen several times to me since eve went live, curiously enough(sarcaism), none of the chars that tried it exist anymore.
Any tries to do that, simply cancel the trade, and tell them, you'll give them a week, and you'll get in contact with them again, hopefully their system will be working better then, and stick to it, wait a week before you try to trade with them again, for anyhing.
Do that, and you'll find this 'mysteriou" problem disappears quickly.

Over twelve hours later and still no response to the petition.
Folks, read my original post. This was no click and switch, it was no 1 isk left. It was a message telling me that the trade had been cancelled...he got my money and kept his merchandise. I got robbed through an unexplained exploit in the trade window. That's all it was. My guess is that CCP knows about it, but either can't or hasn't been able to correct it yet. I don't really expect a "fair" resolution based on my prior experience with "customer service", but I hope they can identify and correct this issue so that I can have some confidence in the trade process.

CCP probably doesn't know about it.
There are a lot of things that they don't know about, but you can be sure they will fix it once you ***** about it enough.
Too bad they can't blame this on m0o, that's worked really well for them with all of these combat issues that the game has. _____ m0o

Day by day, I am getting the impression that Axelay who yes, is "owned" by MOO Inc., that he is the forum ***** for MOO Inc.
Come on, you knew if you were going to post that you were going to get a reaction. Its why you write like you do. And its why I write like I do. :)
I would expect players, not particulary MOO Inc. but you personally as an individual, would abuse the blind spots of EVE. Always abusing instead of reporting...I hope you get hacked and get exploited by someone else for the pure pleasure of griefing . Have a nice day.
"Becareful how far you sift through Pandora's Box...you might get burned."
P.S.-Not a flame post. Just typical socializing with an EVE player. Really. :)

Axe, they should know about it now. It's been over 24 hours since I filed the petition with no response.
I think I know what 5 they released. The GM's that just tell you there is nothing they can do about it. Probably some programming in tomorrows patch that does it for them.

I'd been hit by the repeat cancel problem... apparently the other player involved did not get my bp though, and the GM stated that the bp appeared to have been lost by the system. I did get my bp back though as it was replaced by the GM.

I had this occur between myself and a member. I crashed while the trade window was open and I got my stuff back but the other members stuff dissapeared. Nothing very valuable but has caused us to make trades faster with no delay to help avoid this.

Actually one can be bugged so that when you right-click their name trade is not an option. But 10/10 times the other person can initiate the trade.
I log my friends accounts on sometimes to do trades between chars and this happens ALOT where only one char can initiate the trade process.
As for a trade not going through the way it is when I click accept however I have never seen that.

They probably have the bug hunting team working on trying to duplicate the problem. If they are able to, I'd expect the GM's to respond appropriately.

Edit: Suckered by a necro. Except that people are still trying this sort of thing, so ironically the topic still has meaning.

be wary of this, ive heard of this scam, but ive never seen it in action. when in doubt, ask for a private contract.
