Edited by: Krxon Blade on 08/02/2011 18:24:57 During last year I've been playing EVE only for hour or two per week, which is next to nothing. During last month even less.
I spend much more time here on forums, mostly reading.
This almost looks like break from game and step before quitting but I simply cannot quit because of huge amounts of time I've spent playing during last five years.
So I wonder if anyone here is in similar position?

Edited by: Barakkus on 08/02/2011 18:27:09 Yeah, I pretty much was playing Black Ops or MW2 while my alt just ice mined, so I really didn't play, just clicked, dock, undock etc every half an hour or so. Now that I can't run EVE on my laptop anymore, I don't even bother doing that. During the week I log in for about 20-30 minutes to start PI extractors in the morning. Log in for 20-30 minutes at night to handle extractors and any research I need to on my indy alt, then log off. I may spend a few hours on the weekends every once in a while actually playing, but for the most part I'm just training.
I cancelled once before for about a year, wish I had just kept up my account instead of cancelling so I could keep training going. I cancelled after ghost training was removed. I used to just cancel whenever I had a 30ish day skill to train to save myself some money :P
I'm kinda bored with EVE honestly, but that's my fault for going it solo all the time. There's only so much you can do solo without it turning into a grind.

I was in a similar situation a year ago or so. I just took an extended break and so did some of my friends. After screwing around and trying other games etc. most of us are back and nearly nothing has really changed.
Just stop playing for a while. You will lose nothing and you will always be able to return with new inspiration. If you're wealthy enough you can even keep training. --

That is because you are reading forums and posting in it instead playing the game. You know... the day has 24 hours... only...

I'd say: STOP reading + posting here and GO PLAY the game.

Same here. Took a break some months ago. Started training/paying (and a bit of posting) this year again. Somehow I can't get myself back to active playing atm. Still reading the forums every day.
I do look forward to Incarna. Guess I'll be back then at the latest.

Same here. I started in Eve a week after it launched, was active for some time, quit, returned, quit, returned again... and now I just do the occasional bit of mining and missions, but nothing besides that.
Dunno, I guess I just love the setting and the game, and it's nice be able to logon now and again, even if I am no longer prepared to pour buckets of time and energy into it. |

You are all quite lucky you know and be thankful for that. Sometimes, I don't have time for anything Eve related. If I get to run a mission or two a week. I will be very happy.
Eve is probably the best game I have ever tried because I can juggle my life and work around it. When you work long hours, just set to train for a long skill or use skill queue.
Anyway, try not to power game and you won't burn out. You will love Eve even more.
Anyway, back to work. See you all later. Fly safe. --------- The making of the new Jenny Spitfire |

Edited by: Crumplecorn on 08/02/2011 20:01:12 I'm not even training skills atm. Mainly because I don't have anything left I really want to train. I will get back to playing though, when I finally drag myself away from Assassin's Creed's multiplayer. I'm still paying because I always regret quitting, and always come back, so I've decided I future I'll just give EVE paid vacations. -

I log in rarely, post on the forums and play pretty much nothing but League of Legends.
So yea, pretty much paying but not playing.

Same here. I have two accounts - I play a couple hrs a week at very most, sometimes just a couple hours a month - that's just managing PI for POS fuel and POS for Moon Goo and to train skills on both accounts. The POS toon pays for both accounts via plex though so I'm really not spending any money - infact, my isk wallet is going UP since my profits outweigh my expenses :) at around 29bisk atm. Considering starting some day trading just to put the isk to use... and maybe multiply it exponentially. XTC - Qiwi |

Edited by: Dante Marcellus on 08/02/2011 21:40:29 Not really the same for me, but I can kinda see where you're coming from.
For me it's like this. Everyday when I login, I've got this routine and it seems to be neverending. I'll come to the forums and check to see if there's anything worth reading. If so I'll sit there taking in everyone's opinion and decide whether or not I'd like to reply.
Then I look for something else.
I'm also maybe jumping to a planet or something, not really being active.
Then I'll look through the "face" websites and see how Dante is doing amongst the pack.
And maybe by this time, someone I know has logged in and maybe we're chatting.
All the while, I'm probably still browsing the forums.
At this point I'm probably hungry, so I'm making food and saying, "alright, after this I'm going to do some exploration."
Meanwhile, hours are passing.
Usually end up facepalming at least once a day. And if you're reading this, you've fallen into a signature trap. You owe me 1m ISK. |

I've taken a few long breaks from EVE before, now I've been inactive for one and a half years but have resubbed out of nostalgia mostly. I've been switching skills and doing one boring mission every couple of weeks, but nothing further. Main reason is probably: there's not much fun to be had when not in a corp and with a corp comes the feeling of obligation to play more.
Perhaps it'd help if buying/fitting ships cost me less time, who knows. It's a bit too much hassle to set up things and get going after a long break.
(CCP: please let me set up an item exchange, perhaps reverse auction contract from my saved fittings or let me buy it from the regional high sec market if everything is available at the best price + InterBus 15% surcharge with one click)

Well i guess the thing about eve is that you dont feel as bad paying for it when you dont play since you're still training skills. So the time payed for isnt totally wasted. Though im currentpy in the same boat.

Good point. One of good aspects of that is also the fact when player isn't actively playing, it doesn't mind about skill length. I trained everything I've considered possibly usable in some future. Now I can fly (err.. float is much better word) almost all subcap ships, trained all weapon specializations, Gallente carrier l5, logistics, bombers... Even trained Noctis L5 :) -- Eve Online related stuff |

I'm not playing despite paying, but that's entirely the fault of my college blocking the game (makes it easier to train the longer skills though!)

I get burnt out on occasion as well and still pay. Took a couple breaks. Sometimes a month, sometimes a couple months. Usually try playing another game during that time. Always come back to Eve happy that I kept paying to train.
Funny thing I noticed. Seems grouping up and joining corp/alliance stuff burns me out. The most fun I seem to have is playing alone. Not having anyone relying on me and being able to drop whatever it is I am doing to go do something else makes that feeling of "I have to be there *groan*" change to "Hey, I'm logging in and doing stuff I want *yay*".
As a side effect, I've become a better pvper flying alone and constantly going up against the odds. This only adds to the fun for me and keeps me from getting burnt out.
Maybe some of those getting burnt out should try solo play/pvp?

I took extended breaks several times. Mostly I'm disappointed with the way game design is evolving. The Great Nano Nerf was a huge let down.
The escalation of jump bridge travel in 0.0 and cyno drop mechanics is another big let down. But at least CCP recognize something's worth with that. If they change the game as significantly as they did with Nano Nerf, it'd become fresh again, for a while
If local chat was gone, things would get really exciting

Same here. I have two accounts that i will keep running just because it doesn't cost me real money and i do hope that WIS (or whatever it's called now) is something that i do like, otherwise i will probably give up on the game.
Sometimes i don't bother to train a skill for a few days or a week because there's nothing i really need to train for.

Count me in.
For the last 6 or so months I was logging only to restart extractors every 3 or 4 days or when in right mood (which means: very rarely) to jump into my Vargur and run few L4s. Then I collect PI products, quick sell in Jita, buy timecode for next 2 months and that's it.
I am still training my main but honestly, I am not sure I'll be doing that for much longer - my interest for this game is almost completely gone.

Same thing for me, the game got a bit samey for me so what I did was... sold all my stuff and gave it away. Oh wait no I didn't, I sold all my stuff and went and did something completely different compared to what I was normally doing, now I am enjoying Eve a lot more and I am seeing a completely different side to it.

Understand how you feel, its hard to play in Empire after being in nullsec. I'm learning to trade and do missions, if only I could get past L2.
I quit twice once after '03 when I couldn't figure out how to make it out of highsec I just got bored and quit. Came back and ratted in low sec for a few years quit when it started to get crowded. Made it out to nullsec, three times, had to come back the Empire. Got ganked in my expensive BS. PO raged quit for a year. Now I'm back where I started in '03 in Ours. What a trip over these years, I'm glad I came back, I log in once a day and do stuff, chat with mates, tease the CEO, do a mission, trade, mine a little, pick up trade goods bring it back to Ours. Build stuff. Add another ship to my garage (Home Station) Help the corp.
or I could play WOW...nah I don't wear tights.
