I'm looking to skill up my indy alt for inventing T2 Caldari ships. What skills would I need to have to maximize my chances of a successful invention? So far I have:
-Caldari starship engineering -mechanical engineering -Caldari encryption methods
Are there any other skills that may have an effect, directly or indirectly?
I've tried using the invention calculator and I do not think a 37% chance sounds right. Some help from an experienced inventor would be much appreciated. Thanks.

That sounds about right. You will have many many more failures than successes with ships. Plus the bigger the class of ship, the lower your success rate will be. Be sure to figure in your chances, build costs, and decryptor costs with the various decryptors. Some can really be worth it.

Thank you for the quick informative response. I have another question; if I start off inventing frigates should I be using decryptors? Also, I noticed that meta level plays a a part in invention success. Since it does, what meta level are t1 ships? Do they have a meta level? thanks.

For the decryptors, you will have to do the math yourself.
As for the Meta level, all T1 items (ships and modules) are meta 0. If you want to check just do a show info and it will show the meta level. Meta level 0 adds nothing to invention except wasted ISK since they do not increase the chance.

I suggest you do the math on whether or not the decryptors will be useful for frigate invention (I'll give you a hint, no).
You can determine what meta level the item you're looking at by viewing its attribute information. T1 items are meta level 0, iirc ships do not have meta level.

Thank you. I appreciate the help. I guess I'll just have to bust out some spreadsheets now.

I did the math for you (prices might lag a bit behind the current Forge one, but profit order & best decryptor should always be somewhat accurate, anyway as with all 3rd party tools you always want to check the data ingame) _ Ore Table | PI Profits |

That's a pretty sound piece of advice and those that follow it succeed more then those that ask others to do it for them.

Thanks for the replies everyone, Does anyone know of a good invention guide I could use? I tried finding one and everything seems outdated.

This one got me started:

Invention hasn't really changed in a while really so even most "older" guides should be fine.
