How come we cant paint our ships? If we as capsuleers can hold the wealth of worlds, spend the GDP of entire nations on trinkets for our ships and decide the fate of entire solar systems just by getti9ng a few of us together and punching a few fellow capsuleers in the nose. Why is it we cant afford a can of paint to spruce up our ride or cant pay the same maintainence crew a few bucks to apply the paint?
CCP say this is supposed to be a 'Simulated space world', so in the real world, I'd be able to atleast slip the maintainence guys a few crates of beer each in exchange for reprogramming their drones to paint my hull.
On top of all that, it could open up a whole new avenue for manipulating the game for the customer. If each manufacturer has their own assigned 'brand' (their corp logo) stamped on a ship you could choose to not buy ships manufactured by them.
OR corpmates could define their fleets by colour scheme, or having the corp logo painted on the side of their ships.
Over and above all of that, it would make a nice isk dump ingame. especially if you could pay additional for special graphics, such as the girls painted on WWII bombers/fighters etc...

Although i love this idea andadvocate it in many games i play, i just don't see it being feazable, to impliment thousands of diferent color renders would be an impracticle and quite honestly a misuse of ccp's time.
just think, i have 50+ ships, frigates up to ore industrial and battleships, i'd want them all to be pretty, so i'd paint them all, for me alone that'll be 50+ rendered color and textures. times that by roughly 40k players online at a time, not to mention all their alts... it just seems... way to much.

Scrap, you make excellent points (all of which are enough to no longer beat this dead horse).
However, a few pre-defined, selectable skins per se ship might just be doable. I still think it would rapidly increase the chance of EVE getting a 'Kindergarten' feel, though. So maybe not.

Well I would like to see my corp logo on my rattlesnake and napoc.
Maybe corporations CEO could desing ship colors and choose some patternlayout and that color/pattern would be availabe to all corp members. But only as optional, not forced. Also colors and patterns would be limited to what ever CCP wants.
Like theres no pink hairs on toons so theres no need for pink color for ships.
Think of it like guild tabards in world of grindgraft.
(No I wont go back to wow because is a lousy excuse for a game)
