Does anyone else regret starting out as Gallente and investing considerable SP into Gallente, only to find Minmatar and Amarr were much better in terms of value/Sp?
I certainly do, the lore of Gallente and the idea of using drones seemed cool, but it was boring and flawed in reality. The race has been falling apart, getting worse and worse with newer and newer expansions.
Training for Gallente was a waste and a mistake to train for unless you wanted angel ships.

The grass is always greener on the other side and the FOTM keeps changing. All the other races have their weaknesses and the only reasons to change focus is that you like their playstyle better than your current one and you want to nerf proof your character. All that spent SP will make crosstraining fairly painless anyway, so even in the worst case the waste in SP is minimal.

When I started playing in the days of 90% webs and NOS being awesome, Gallente was the considered the king of all and Amarr was a golden paperweight race outside of the Curse/Pilgrim
Bottom line, the game changes, ships rise in popularity and fall back into obscurity each passing year. If you like a certain race/ship/combat role, train it and the rest will work itself out.
...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

Training several characters for Gallente actually. No regrets whatsoever, quite enjoying it.
The thing is, I've played this game for years chasing the holy grail of optimization, only to realize things like efficiency and maximum profit aren't equal to fun. These days, I play for fun instead. And I'm having fun playing Gallente.

I trained hybrids/gallente after caldari and only regret it because hybrids really do suck compared to energy and projectile weapons.
gallente do have some nice ships though and don't regret being able to fly ships like the ares, ishkur, ishtar or domi or myrmidon. they have some really versatile hulls.
hybrid could really do with a revision though, like far better tracking and less cap drain.
gallente aren't the problem, hybrids are.

hybrids only suck if you're solo. If you're in a gang and have tacklers to allow you to get hull to hull with the target, those blasters get sexy really fast. ♥

After closing in on 8 years. The answer is no. Also crosstraining is the key. Almost nobody can avoid it.
But again, your random alt post and whine is the usual trollsetup. --------------------------------------

We have all trained stuff that didn't deliver the anticipated benefits. You will have a lot of transferable core skills.
I suggest that you also train up minmatar frig/cruiser/bs and projectiles: your drone skills will still come into play with minnie ships and with both gallente and minmatar ship skills, an awesome pirate faction BS becomes available to you.

I started out as Inteki, and trained that char for 10 days. Then I realized I had created a complete moron
So I ditched the sucker and started this one, and that's allmost 7 years ago.

Unfortunately, "oomph" is the sound one makes when kicked repeatedly in the ribs.

Pro tip: Start training a separate Gallente alt now. Cross train your main. You can thank me by sending ISK donations, I don't mind.
Apparently, according to CCP, balancing can only be done via a super dense sledge hammer.

Agreed, the Gallente seem to be hugely disadvantaged. There turret based weapons are the lease versatile and the UI for controlling drones is ridiculously inefficient. On top of all that, they have the ugliest T3 cruiser!

To be honest I started Gallente because I liked the backstory compared to all other races. I went into this game knowing nothing on races, skills, gameplay knowledge or anything at all! Which is something a like doing a lot with in games. Only learning once I fail
As it stands, I enjoy flying great looking ships, and while I've been tempted to cross train a lot to Minmatar, I'll stay Gallente for quite a while!

I've been debating my next skill move. Currently all my combat skills focus on missiles for my Tengu, but I'm about ready to branch out into guns.
So I either hybrids in anticipation of a buff or lasers/Amarr for Sansha ships and a Curse. What to do...

Now you know how I felt when I started playing in Nov 2006 when Amarr sucked....1st thing I did after I fell in with some vets who knew what the F*&k they were doing was to cross train Gal, cause Gal was the king back then.
Don't sweat it, either cross train Amarr (guns, armor n' cap skills are immediately transferable) or wait for the anticipated Gal buff.
