You didn't need the mouse to control the camera.
We have shortcuts to zoom in and out, so that's the Z, how about a an X and Y shortcut keys to rotate the the camera via a keyboard or alternative device, such as an analogue stick?
Also you know how when you place the mouse cursor over the locked icon of an object, the camera pans to look at whatever you've got locked? When I'm using a mouse that actually gets kind of annoying, but if I'm just using a keyboard I wish it would do it automatically when I cycle through locked targets.
So how about an option in general settings, to toggle the camera panning to an object just by having it selected in the overview?
Just some thoughts, because honestly I'm really liking the idea of playing EVE just via a keyboard, or alternative peripherals 
fake edit, would also be nice to be able to put the camera in a position you desire, and press a shortcut to 'lock it' in place, so that when use the camera to orbit or pan to something, it spins back into a 'default' position. Like when you hold rmb to pan, and it snaps back in place when you let go.

I've been thinking this exact thing. I've been wanting to be able to fly mouseless since I first started playing in 2007 and now I'm almost there.
Some other way to control the camera would be awesome. It'd be cool if I could use the thumbstick on my G13 (or even an actual console-style controller) to move the camera.
Note that using ALT will move the camera to your targets or whatever, but you can't move the camera around without the mouse--it just centers it on something other than your ship.
On the other hand, as of the Great Shortcut Overhaul of Incursions, it's much much better than it used to be. At least now I can navigate and shoot stuff without a mouse except for camera control. I don't want to sound like I'm whining after getting X that I didn't get X + Y. X is awesome on its own. Hell, if Incursions was just the new shortcut system and nothing else, it'd be the best expansion ever, IMO.

Regardless and back on topic. Yes the new shortcuts are a hell of an improvement and I'm grateful for that, I just think a few extra features and it would be perfection.
I think it would be nice to be able to control the camera with maybe a flight controller stick or just the keyboard numberpad. That and perhaps some automatic camera movement, so it's no at an odd angle when you're flying about without the mouse. I can't be the only one who would like an option to have the camera automatically swing to focus on the back of the ship, like a chase cam.

You obviously haven't been following the news around bots if you think it's gonna matter if there are more keyboard control options. They're a bit more advanced than that.

I wish. There's video glasses that come with head tracking with a free sdk for developers to support them. The video glasses themselves arn't amazing compared to a big monitor but they're really quite immersive.
I imagine video glasses with supported head tracking in EVE would pretty much make you feel like a irl pod pilot
