Lots of near misses, but lots more fails.
2b worth of technetium in an obelisk. I jumped into lowsec without a scout. Died to a wonderful pirate fleet. I went and bought another obelisk and another 2b of technetium.
I've undocked a Macherial with faction gear to move from amarr when I was -2.02 and died to faction navy. Think I lost a couple bil on that one too.
I've flown a titan. That was a pretty fail.

On the maiden voyage of my Proteus I fearlessly entered into the pit of northern nullsec. On about the fifth jump in I crashed into a wicked camp, of some 50 pilots by my reckoning. I'm assuming this was a war party looking to engage another nullsec enemy, but I knew they wouldn't pass up a T3 kill. I don't know how many ships came at me trying to decloak me, but a Dramiel who was already quite close to me screached forth in my direction like an anti-cloaking ballistic missile. Because I was still training Prop Systems for agility, my align time was way up in the seven second area. I just sighed deeply (belying my pounding, panicked heart), prepped another drink as my ship aligned, and expected the worst. Miraculously I was able to hit warp velocity. I actually did get decloaked but thanks to the 'diction nullifier I was still able to warp before I was targeted and scrammed. I continued on my nullsec exploration mission and eventually returned to Empire with two faction implants, a Sansha energy neut (I travelled over 50 jumps south), and about 40 mil in salvage.
And since people are mentioning big fails, my first RvB loss is definitely up there for me. I flew my nice Arazu out to the old RvB warzone, still smirking about the low sec mining op I held hostage with it just days before. I was new to RvB, and for whatever reason I suspected a disproportionate amount of hapless newbs to inhabit the Red Fed. How wrong I was. On my very first flight into RvB space, I saw some Red frigates engaging Blues by the Blue station. I uncloaked, scrammed, and opened fire with my rails, knocking out the armor of my target. Suddenly, a large Red relief force comes in, and I find myself targeted and then locked and scrammed by someone in a speedy frigate. I couldn't believe it. All my experience in nullsec, Empire merc'ing, and low sec piracy and I fell for this? Anyway, I learned not to underestimate RvB, and it's made my experience in it all the better tbh.

Warped to a gate in lowsec in my prowler, jumped through with a zealot, the gate put both myself and the zealot at less than 2km from each other so neither of us benefited from the gate cloak.
Needless to say I warped off before he could lock me, I was also flying empty but it did cause the zealot pilot to shake his fists at me.

this is not what happened to me, but a good friend of mine in the game. It has made him alot more paranoid with his carrier lol.
He had a lvl 5 mission he was able to take carrier into and decided to give it a go, just after completing mission and getting ready to get out about 20 people popped in local, he had a cloak on and luckily had nothing near him and cloaked up, not even 5 seconds after cloaking he said the fleet came in and started zooming all around his ship coming VERY close several times lol. he had his cyno alt in system and flew in and lit cyno, as they agressed and popped his cyno ship he decloaked and gtfo via cyno jump and the group of pirates began to rage saying they will get him next time lol, so now he pretty paranoid about lvl 5 mission and carrier after 1st time trying. Eve is so fun lol
