So I can see that drakes are very very very popular pvp ship right now. I was wondering, what ship can take on a drake quite easily? Because I see this as a potential opportunity. If everyone is flying a drake then I might as well fly something that kills drakes.

Rumour has it that Pulse-fit Abaddons do pretty well. See PL's killboard for details.

Energy Neutralizers help a lot as it shuts down any active shield toyz a Drake has. The Drake does pretty meh DPS so its not hard to tank. Just wear it down. ----- Malevolence. is recruiting. Dive into the world of 0.0 !

The thing about the Drake is that aside from its Tank and Survivability its not really that astounding of a ship. Essentially its a ship that has a very high chance of surviving while doing "ok" dps. It excels currently in the lag filled combat of Null sec because they just field as many as possible, then suddenly you have a cloud of highly survivable ships slowly pegging away at the enemy.
One on one or in small gang its all about how you are fit, etc. My friend has no problem against drakes in his Heavy Assault Cruiser. Also if you target the Drakes survivability, Neuting them, using ecm, etc. You can take them down.

A drake is not that hard to take. While a solid ship with no real weakness there are ships that do more dmg.
Problem is the drake is easy to fly and easy to fly in large groups. they are also hard to counter in large groups as they are a well rounded ship with no real failings.
Most short range fits will destroy a drake...

Neuting a drake? I thought the whole point of the drake was that it was passive fit?

Most use active hardeners so it's pretty easy to knock out a substantial part of their resists. Then it's just a matter or delivering sufficient DPS to overcome their innate regen before their dps can demolish you.
In the end it all comes down to pilot skill and fittings.
Edit: oh and proper PVP drakes are buffer fit not passive. (extender rigs and weapon mods rather than Purgers and SPRs)

Hold on, let me check the rules of Eve combat:
(1) Be on the side with more ships.
(2) Endeavor not to be on the side with fewer ships.
(3) If one side has x ships, and the other x + y, where y is an arbitrary positive number, be on the latter.
... seriously, though, one-on-one it'll come down to fittings, probably, not ship types. If you're specifically hunting a drake then bring one or more friends, because that's the best way to take _any_ solo boat. Especially if your friend is in an EW fit recon or something equally hilarious. ---

I love the harbi, but if there are 2 fleets, and one fleet has 10 drakes and the other has 11 harbis, I think I want to be on the drake side... just saying.

Why would an EW fit recon be hilarious? I thought recon ships were specifically designed for EW?
Also, I guess what I meant to ask was what ship (AND fittings) would you use to take down a drake? Because yeah I can get some friends to gang up on a drake, but I don't need help figuring out how to do that. I want to know 1v1 what is a drake weak to? And I mean the properly pvp-fit drakes that use an insane buffer where neuting them isn't going to do much help.

1 on 1 they are not that good at all. They are slow, which gives you a varity of options. The problem is that they are so easy to fit massive passive shields on, which leads to swarms of them + shield logi being a natural thing to do. How to counter that? Simple Maelstrom + shield logi.

Edited by: Cyprus Black on 19/02/2011 02:25:21 Drakes are weak against EM damage and a typical drake pilot uses kinetic damage missiles due to the damage bonuses on the drake.
Many ships already have decent kinetic resistances, so all you really need to do is carry some EM damage ammo on your cargohold in case you do come across a drake.
Nothing is funnier to see than a hurricane fitted with autocannons switch to EM ammo and shred through a drake.
