Hi,
I was wondering what the difference is between something like a "heavy missile launcher" and an "arbalest heavy missile launcher"
For the crazy price that the Arbalests sell for I would expect them to be good. When I click on "show info" the stats seems pretty similar?
Thanks

Edited by: Daktor on 29/01/2005 17:11:02 Lets look at the important stats:
Heavy Missile Launcher Capacity: 4.5m3 Powergrid: 60 CPU: 50 Rate of Fire: 20 sec
Arbalest Heavy Missile Launcher Capacity: 5.4m3 Powergrid: 60 CPU: 42 Rate of Fire: 16
So, the Arbalest holds more (5.4 vs 4.5), takes less CPU (42 vs 50) and has a better rate of fire (16 vs 20). That's what you are paying for.

they maybe similiar, but if you can afford them, the bonuses can turn the tide of a battle in your favour. arbalest launchers have a higher rate of fire, larger munitions capacity and lower fitting requirements. ----- ----- -----

also u may be comparing a fitted standard launcher to an unfitted arbalest. The fitted one will have ur skillz applied, whereas the unfitted wont, obviously.
When comparing ships and modules, always compare them either unfitted/not flying, or fitted/flying otherwise ur comparisons will be inaccurate

Very, very good point Eyeshadow. You really have to compare apples with apples. The temptation is often to compare a named item in your hangar or from market information with the one fitted to your ship. Never a good idea.
Also be aware that there are named versions of both Basic and Tech I modules. This can make them hard to identify at first but with time and repeated viewings you'll know what the good stuff is.

Whether or not it is "worth" it depends on what you are trying to do.
If you are fighting NPCs, it is usually much more affordable to use whatever is cheap and whatever loot you pick up and still be quite viable.
If you are fighting PCs, you need every edge possible. If the players and ships are well matched, but one side spent more on "uber" gear ... the uber gear wins. Usually, though, it is whoever guessed how to counter the other's configuration, but that still might require "uber" gear to make the setup fit.
