So I plan to pop into 0.0 from time to time and hunt me some faction bosses along with a few belts worth of 1.5mil (or so) rats (i'm leaving from Minmatar space at the moment fyi).
What should I take? I can fly anything BS and lower with almost perfect skills.. so any ship available is fine by me. I want it to remain relatively cheap (I guess T3 cruiser is out then) in case it gets ganked/camped.
I was considering an Ishtar with sentries.. or maybe Ogre IIs. Something small and gtfo'able is probably a good idea. Something that doesnt suffer from me fitting a cloak to it would be good too. Alternatively I could fly a HAC.. or ..er.. bomber? Hurricane?
Anyone with experience want to chime in?

The best thing for cloaking and no price limit is a Tengu. I know it's out of your price limits, but you can covert fit it, get a good tank and good dps.

Edited by: Puppet Dictator on 17/02/2011 18:20:13 Yeah I kinda knew the Tengu thing, but I don't really want to take one into 0.0. Eventually i'll lose it to a camp.
So far we have a vote for the bomber? Really? Can I tank rats long enought to actually kill them you think? Its cheap... I like that.. but frigates will eat me alive.. and usually there are 2-3 BSs and a few frigates to deal with.

T3 has indiction nullifier, the singule most important thing. Barring that, use a cheap sb. If you have high skills (sb 5) and damage profile matches, yes, you can kill belt rat bs fast. Mind the newly buffed officers.

Cloaky Ishtar can do it pretty good, and stay deployed there for weeks (till you are satisfied, or your cargo hold full) due to no real ammo limitations. With the recent price changes its expensive, but you can do it with 200mil.
SBs of a proper race for the rat type you are after are a good choice, much cheaper and with A LOT of DPS to make quick work of BSs. Terrible against smaller stuff, you use your speed and range for tank, kill the BSs/faction ship and GTFO after bookmarking the wreck, to warp-in back on-top of it, loot and warp out again.

Any form of drone boat will do it ( I personally do it in an ishkur. Cloak with MWD and you're good to go) but bombers would probably do it faster and have the benefit of covops cloak. just Obliterate the BS's and move on.
Just one question to the bomber advocates: how do you guys deal with a scram frig rat? I know you should kill the BS's before you get scrammed, but what happens if it goes south? double painters? ECM? painter + Web (all of which I could see as viable on a nemesis/manticore, but not a hound/purifier do to slot limitations)?

I ratted in deep 0.0 space for a loooong time with an Ishtar. No guns, just drones. All vamps in the highs (two mediums and two smalls, I think). Get inside the target BS's guns, orbit close, rinse, and repeat. Speed is your friend and, with the right implants, I was doing over 800 with just the AB.
I went out prior to hunting and dropped a bunch of giant secures in an offgrid safe, though I'm not sure that would work anymore. In any case, I was able to store up quite a lot of loot. After a week or so of ratting, I would just take a transport and haul it in to slag/sell. Very lucrative.
Boring after a bit, but there's always that instant of suspense when you warp into a belt to see what you might get...sort like a box of chocolates (lol). Afterward, if it's just standard rats, you can go back to watching netflix on your second box.
Just keep an eye on the clock when you warp into the system. 30 minutes later start really watching your back.

I just recently used a sb to raise my sec status and as long as you put on a small shield tank against the rats frigs and dessies become no problem. If you get pointed finish the bses and pulse your mwd twice to get away.

Stealth bomber.
Alternately, a speedy-fit vexor or a regular old vanilla-build myrm can rat/run sites basically forever for under 50m, let alone 200. Not quite as fast at the chain-killing BSes and running out nonsense as others, but solid. ---

This. Or, if you want to be cheap, nano Hurricane works excellently.
