Hey i've been vacant from eve for a while and was reading somewhere that Blasterboats took a whack with the nerf bat, how has this affected the astarte as a solo pvp ship?? Because they used to kick some ass!
Thanks or your time :)

They suck about as bad as any Gallente DPS ship, which is pretty bad. YMMV. On the plus side, Gallente are so terrible that nobody packs Gallente racial jammers on their Falcon alt, so you don't have to worry about that as much.

They're not worth the cost, or the rage. If you want facemelting gallente BC goodness use a shield tanked Brutix. Lacks a bit of tank but it makes up for it with cheapness and... facemelting, can still make you rage though.

Edited by: Cygnus Zhada on 19/02/2011 10:55:08 "suck" is perhaps the wrong word for it. The problems are these:
- webs don't do 90% anymore so it's quite difficult to keep stuff in your range, which you need (changes to scramblers make up for that, but still). Also, tracking is affected by this - lasers have been buffed to the point where they do similar dps, so your idea of "I have no range but once I GET there I'll just melt them" is kinda gone. So you do similar dps without the range - projectiles got a big boost that works really well with the current "stay at range" type of gameplay, and even up close they now hurt a lot due to changed damage types - current consensus is that "approach, scram and facemelt" isn't really that good, because if you scram your target, he can scram you and then his friends show up
End verdict: no range + no speed + cap dependant = meh
They can ofcourse still kill stuff just fine in a solo scenario but in fleets or gangs people prefer speed, agility, NOT being a cap hog and being able to project their damage at range. Gallente just doesn't sit well with that, Gall is stuck in 2006 and everyone else has moved on.
Solo the thorax and brutix can do fine, the droneboats are as good as ever (although changes to nos and ecm made them less OP). Ranis and ishkur still rock (but will be overshadowed by the Dramiel)

Blasterboats bigger than Taranis/Ishkur are bad now. But don't worry too much, solo on anything bigger than frig is hard now.
Myrm/Dominix/and-maybe-Hyperion are still viable for solo, at least for lowsec, coz they can take tons of dmg without dying and shoot some stuff while being killed. If the enemy gang isn't too big or haven't too much ECM, of course.
TAke a look at angel ships, they require Matar and Gallente skills and are great now. Current FOTM. Machariel, Cynabal, Dramiel.
If you are blaster fan, try Serpentis ships. They have 90% webs and long falloff due to bonuses, this makes their blasters viable. But they are damn expensive

ishtar, domi, ishkur, navy vexor, gila/rattler. as long as t2 sentries are equipped, you can bring on some serious pain.

I'd rather use a bhaalgorn for pvp than a mach. Depends on the situation though but who really has the isk to drop so much when a blob can be anywhere at anytime nowadays.

Domi with neuts is pretty awesome in most circumstances, but especially when facing active tanks

Just try it for a while in a 2x MAR Brutix. Most Astarte fits i've seen work this way too, so you will get a realistic feeling of how the ship will perform with little bit more tank, range and dps.
Its critical to learn how to pick your fights as your tank cannot handle multiple ships, especially if those are not Drakes shooting KIN missiles on you (which the Astarte loves to tank).

Given that 90% webs are gone, has anyone tried dual-web fits to make up for it? A 4 mid-slot ship would have 2 webs, MWD, scram. With no cap booster, perhaps flying with a Nos would help offset any neut action.
Viable? Worthwhile? I'm not really a Gallente pilot at all other than plinking around a bit with the Incursus.

The problem with double web/no cap booster setup is that buffer tanking (on Gallente) cuts down on your range of targets and active tanking is cap intensive.
Edit: Frigs are a bit different of course.
