My primary source of income is PI (yes, really) and this depletion idea is really ruining my ex-steady production. Is there any guide somewhere how to set up a planet which would allow for easy transition between different deposits without having to rebuild everything from scratch (with a launchpad it's about 1.5mil everytime I swap around).
Cheers

from my experience, eventually the deposits come back. you could harvest something else while you wait I suppose....

To minimise depletion don't run one extraction controller with 10 heads, run two with less heads on different areas of the planet. Less things to move when depletion does hit you so the cost is lower, I think I'm running just over 1m isk for each move...

Only move the ecu around. (45k isk - cheap) Use long links for that.
If you don't have the power for this and you are on a small planet, decommission some stuff.
If you are on a large planet, you can use an unupgraded link, and put a storage facility (250k isk)next to the ecu. Use expedited transfers or route from the storage facility to the basic processors. An unupgraded link can keep 4 basic processors going.
I have yet needed to move anything other than this - and I get more with less effort than before the change.
Resources deplete faster if the extractor heads are close together. It is better to get 2-3 nearby hotspots than only one. - better here means less moving the ecu - you may not get as much stuff this way.

Depending on the value of the resources and size of the planet, the opportunity cost from using all that power for the link instead of heads might be more than the cost of just rebuilding a launchpad and paying all the export/import taxes to move the raw materials by spaceport to the P1 processors.
It's a tricky calculation but its still worth the quick sanity check to consider it.

The problem is, that resources are 'depleting' even if you don't extract them. I mean they move randomly for every few days Eve Tools - Tools for eve; manufacturing, reprocessing calculator, trade finder, market browser, product prices, trade hubs ranking |

You do know that everyone in EVE can extract the same resource on the same planet right? Even if you right-click and show other players it doesn't always show them.
They are not randomly depleting, they are being extracted by other players.

whaat??? I was loled then. I wasted lot of time trying to find planets where there aren't any players Eve Tools - Tools for eve; manufacturing, reprocessing calculator, trade finder, market browser, product prices, trade hubs ranking |

Is that really true that it does not always show other players facilities? If that's true, that sucks big time...

Are you saying that 1x ECU with 10 heads needs same power as 2x ECUs with 5 heads each ?

Unfortunately, two with 5 heads each costs more - added cost of 1 ECU
