Why can't people sit back and bask in the warm glow of someone else's mistake without having to resort to insulting? Makes no sense. They made a mistake, people giggled, I managed to learn something new (warp cancels self-destruct? Nice, good to know.) and life goes on.

I wasn't fooling around, that guy clearly thinks I self destructed the ship for the sheer fun of it which I obviously didnt, thanks for the comment you made though, some people like to throw insults because they are incapable of constructive adult conversation, just ignore him, everyone else pretty much who has posted has posted something of use.
Regenbald did it as a joke expecting it to be cancelled when he left the ship or I boarded it which apparently didn't happen...
Hard to know you need to cancel something when you have no timer...

I remember that in the old days before the Ctrl+space to stop the ship until the session change allowed to dock back in.
Undocking did not launch your ship at top speed, so a lot of ppl trick was to self destruct, wich for some obscure reason made the ship unlockable, until they get the session change rdy and then redock again. Not sure if this still works but brings memories 
Also a pitty all the bitter troll flaming for no reason, the OP already stated the Lulz he felt for the situation.

Only because he assumed it would be cancelled, which is a pretty bold assumption to be making with someone elses Rattlesnake. Why would it cancel?

Whenever I've SD'd a ship, I get constant notifications every...10 or 20 seconds...that the explosions is imminent. I set SD, wait 30sec, eject, warp to station, board different ship (this is usually when I get the final destruction notification) then warp back to wreck and salvage.
There are certain ships that, when priced right are worth more as salvage than they are selling for on the market. This is sort of my ATM, when I need some quick isk, so I've done this quite a few times.
