Hello all i'm starting for those who'll rush their keyboard with their favorite letters : S-E-A-R-C-H here what i have :500 - Internal Error The server was unable to process your request. Support personel has been notified, no further action is needed.
Ok, i play on Eve mac for a couple of years and we have several bugs, more than you apparently, but we managed to survive for now.
The question is : I'm going to the bad world named -0.0 and i can't afford a crash to desktop over there. So i'm planning to run Eve with windows XP (bootcamp) SP3 32bits, where i can earn stability and flawlessly the problem is i'm limited to 2gb ram and i have 2 clients, i saw massive ram swap leading to an unresponding system some times (hello mass test sisi)
i can upgrade to Win7 standart but i will not buy a system without experience. i looked around here, and i saw many trouble with W7 x64 or ati card, i just wondering if it's safe to upgrade now Perhaps Win XP x64 would be a better choice?
My config : Xeon e5150 2x(2x2.67Ghz), 6G ram (2x2+4x512 fb dimm 667), Ati/MSI 4890 1G, and catalyst 9.4 (got problems with newer versions on old games) Max directX supported = 10.1 and playing in fixed windows on both 1920x1200 screens.
Can you help me what is the best ? Stick on what i have(xp pro 32), XP64, Win7 32, 64 ? Thanks and "fly safe" Ps : trolls like : buy a pc are not welcome, thanks in advance, i was a crack under dos 6 and windows 3.1 :)

To get the most out of your RAM, I would definitely go with a 64bit OS. Now as of what to choose, between XP or 7, is totally up to you. I would go with 7 as I use them since launch and haven't regret it. What troubles me though is the graphics card. I have an ATI HD4850 and although I can get 2 clients running on dual screens, high graphic settings are out of the question when both are running. Also when participating in mass testings on SiSi, fps drop way down (around 10-15fps) when in big fleets and with all graphic settings to lowest.
That's my input on the matter. I know I haven't been much of a help but better than nothing, right?

Edited by: Lork Niffle on 21/02/2011 15:06:05 If you must go with XP, go with XP 32bit, XP64 has serious driver compatibility issues and was merely brought in to provide 64bit support to XP systems.
There is no reason to not go with Win7 x64 as it certainly provides a very good experience over XP. Win7 is quickly becoming more popular to XP so driver compatibility is very high. I have experienced no issues with Win7 and modern ATI cards. ------------------------------------- The system issues man. |

You are using a 10 year old Operating System, sir.
Windows XP is limiting your system power in a way you can't imagine.
Use Windows 7 64bits.

yes it's a 10y old system, but eve is a 8y old software too :) and that's the problem, i don't know if ccp developed a win7 version, or they just dirty-patched it ;)
today i can play on both screen with full definition and i'm limiting to 60fps, the card stay at 65-70¦c so that's correct. (i've burned the 2 last)
Ok i will not put a xp64 in this, that's a thing i'm sure not to do now ;) so considering you told me w7-64b i suppose that the 32bits version doesn't support 2 cpu sockets and 8 ram sockets like xp thanks for your help, i have to choose the right version of windows now.

Edited by: Desmont McCallock on 22/02/2011 07:54:38 It's not that Win7 32bit doesn't support 2 cpu slots, it's that the RAM the OS will see is limited to about 3.5GB. With Win7 64bit it will see the full 6GB.
Edit: Driver support of Win7 is the best I've seen so far with any Windows OS. Whatever hardware I install it gets automatically recognized and drivers get downloaded if needed. The only time I manually installed drivers was for the graphics card.

The difference between XP and 7 is like, not even describable...... same goes for Vista to 7.
But last time I checked windows 7 prices it was horribly expensive, was a while back tho :)
But I am sure if your running a mac you dont know how to spend your money so may as well

the family version is "just" 50Ç more that macos okay i spent 4000Ç in the best machine of 2006, this time is over, now i found even eve is freaky expensive !
well i put windows 7 64 in this, i suspect one memory overheats (80¦c+) leading to the famous blue screen of the death if i don't speed up the fans, but that's ok, memory was made in china ;)
so i past a entire day managing how to run eve, seems i needed to reinstall vcredist AND directX11, don't know why but... it-works-like-a-charm ! (win tells me i have 7.6 out of 7.9 in performance which is not so bad i think) thanks now i have to discover win7 and find what command makes it instant crash (it's important to me, we never know)
