Hey CCP,
I would be willing to pay 20$ a month to play eve, if there was a PVE shard. I spoke to my friends and they would be willing to do the same. It would have no impact on your current pvp set (except to deprive them of some targets) and you would make a boat load of cash. What do you all think ? would you pay extra to play on a pve shard? Please be constructive. As if I could hope for anything more then all the pvpers to come to this thread and cry over their lack of targets should this very thing happen.

kinda goes against the whole concept of eve and the EVEYONE is on a single shard advertisement. not to mention woudl cost a ****ing fortune to set up a shiny new shard or wreck tq as they nick blades off it
CCP: destroying the game we love 1 nerf at a time.

This shouldn't happen for a number of reasons. Firstly, many "carebears" will migrate to this second server, leaving the first broken. Without the carebears many pvpers will see no reason to continue playing, so will quit. CCP will therefore lose money instead of make more. In addition, Eve will sacrifice TWO legacies for which it is famous - its cut throat pvp nature, and its single shard universe. Without these claims the game will be much less attractive to prospective future subscribers, so CCP will also sacrifice future revenue. Also future subscribers will scoff at the idea of paying far more for a "safe" PvE server than they would have to for pretty much any other mmog that exists, further damaging subscriber uptake.
Personally I am a pvper, but I won't be tempted to point out the obvious problems I have with the idea of paying such a hefty amount for what is basically a single player game. I would recommend X3: The Terran Conflict, or Nexus: The Jupiter Incident for a cheap alternative.

They could get l33t gear...
Wait, the test server is PVE except for the PVP zone, if people are so hard core pve why don't they use the test server?

There already is a second server where you can do tons of PvE - Singularity.

What part of the test server is pvp ? is it flagged out with an indicator? Thank you for the info I didn't realize that the test server was pve and while its not permenant I will probably play more on there.

The market would quickly crash on the new shard if it's just full of people who make their own stuff and can only lose it by messing up in a pve situation. First person to build 200 typhoons would saturate the market for months in an entire region.
It'd be like establishing a new town with 20 families and all 20 families open up a general store.
Secondly, someone would just get a group together to grind for isk and drop TCUs all over null and claim it all. Without pvp, you couldn't do anything about it.

In FD-MLJ (i think that is the right system name) there are beacons up that say "FFA - _(type of ffa)_" where anyone can be shot. Outside of that people are not allowed to engage unless you agree to it.
The test server does mirror the real server, so be aware that you will loose all your efforts when that happens.

Edited by: Goose99 on 22/02/2011 16:56:10 It will be profitable. On all mmos that separate pvp and pve servers, the pve one ends up with overwhelming majority of player base.
I'd support this, in the long shot that it actually get implemented. The carebears dropping into a new shard would also drop griefers, bots, political megalomaniacs, and other parasites that have gotten fat by infesting them, out of Eve.
Before this state of affairs came to be, Eve used to be different. Everyone had less, but are not risk avert. Freed from shackles of wealth, there would be free roaming in t1 ships, real pvp to be had, as there'll be no farmers and bots to support the cap blob. It's you and your rifter, roaming the frontiers. This would return Eve on the pvp server to earlier times, simpler times. Wish you were there.

The only thing that is considered griefing in eve is can baiting noobs in rookie systems. The rest is war, by design.
I never understood why people play multiplayer games online to play against computers. So maybe you could explain what people do on these "pve shards"?

To the OP: Once you get all your toys and skills, you'll be wanting to pvp, as the pve won't keep you forever, then you'll be back here asking for server transfers.

I would finally get to see what its like to Rat the big Rats in 0.0. I would mine in 0.0 , I would manufacture my own T2 and higher gear while ratting in the most cutting edge ships in 0.0. And the dev's not being complete morons , would actually up the difficulty of deep space rats so people lost ships to them. yeah ... it would be great

Yes they could focus major efforts on programming AI, but AI never gets clever like actual human beings. That is the entire point of multi-player games and most good game designers know this.
I don't understand why you are ok with losing your ship to NPCs but not to other players?

I havent got a lot of isk to replace my implants , or even my clone on a regular basis for that matter. I cant stand the thought of losing my avatar just because I cant afford it.

The reverse would probably also be true. Make pods invulnerable and there would probably be more pvp.

You know you can just pick something to warp to and spam the warp button as you are dieing and you wont lose your pod?
Whats really the big problem with losing your pod anyway? You know you don't HAVE to use implants that cost over a billion isk, that is your choice.
