Edited by: hired goon on 23/02/2011 00:30:47 Has anyone been watching this? So far I've watched the first two episodes on iplayer, and it is awful. Does it get better or should I put me out of my misery?

I was watching the first episode and noticed that Jamie Bamber (Apollo in BSG) was in it, so I thought that it might get good in the coming episodes.
Then he died.

The last time we did good sci-fi in the UK was Quatermass and that was a long fkn time ago.

Well, Doctor Who and Torchwood were decent, but then again they're much more on the fantasy side rather than actual sci-fi, so... _

I've watched all the episodes so far. It's better than most crap on the telly, but it hasn't done much for me so far. The loss of Jamie Bamber was really a WTF moment - how can they entice us with such a good actor and then kill him immediately? And the trouble is he eclipsed the other actors, really highlighting their current lack of charisma and one-dimensionality. I also cringe at the universal-spirit-religion-powerplay storyline.
I'm hoping it's going to get better - the 4th episode where the first non-AC to arrive at carpathia turns up at fort haven was pretty exciting, if you ignored the natural-occuring-perfectly-cut-diamonds rubbish.
It has a lot of potential and there's a reasonable sentient alien storyline developing, but they'd better get a move on. If they nail the planet exploration side of things in a fallout-esque manner it could be ace.

This one has a resounding thumbs down from all concerned and has now been shifted in schedule to late night Sunday... the bell tolls for any new show in that slot.

I persisted, assuming the gaping holes in the story line would turn out to be plot twists, sadly it seems like I was utterly wrong.

I so wanted this to be good.
I have pointed and laughed derisively at lots of american sci-fi, and have often wondered why the UK didn't have a go as we'd clearly wipe the floor with anything Hollywood can produce.
And what is my patience and faith rewarded with? Eastenders in space.
**** you BBC, **** you very much indeed.

the first episode was one of the worst hours of my life, I do feel it gets better after epsiode 1, I quite enjoyed episode 2 (but I was clouded by the experience of epsiode 1) and I do feel the show is getting better, its not the greatest sci-fi show ever but its not like there is much else out there at momant except v.2009 unless someone wants to enlighten me.

It was E#2 didn't make much sense, in E#1 Fleur murders the guy in cold blood for kidnapping his own son, harsh but kind of understandable. However in E#2 she gets all squeamish about killing the renegades who slaughter most of the survivors from the escape pod. She and the scout then surrender their weapons to the renegades and eventually return the baby to them despite knowing all about their lack of humanity and decent into barbarism.
Then we have Tate allowing Berger onto the council despite knowing he stole his place on the escape pod and is plotting rebellion. Berger's character stretches believability past breaking point for me. The inhabitants of Carpathia are supposed to be the elite chosen because they are smart, thinkers, scientists and practical. They wouldn't fall within the thrall of such a obvious charlatan.
The vast majority of the characters are weak, to soft to make credible pioneers for a new colony.
