This would work like the current "Guard Character X" drone command, except that it would protect all ships in the current fleet.
I am seeing this from a miner standpoint: when you have a mining op going, it would be great if someone in the fleet could drop drones that would protect all ships in the fleet by engaging NPCs that attack any of the vessels in the fleet.
Obviously this needs to be thought through, as for all fleet related commands the wing / fleet / squad commander has to have a say in this. It could even be possible that only the squad commander himself may have this command, as it is more than likely that he will be carrying combat drones.
I am calling for ideas - do you think this could be useful, and if yes, how would you want it implemented?

This seems unnecessary. If you're AFK mining, you're most likely doing it in high sec, in which case a single flight of T1 light drones will protect you from anything that spawns in the belts. If you're at the keyboard, then you can target the rats and issue a kill command. |

This does sound interesting.
You could for example, launch your drones and "assist" the squad commander. He would be the drone bunny, he could then command the drones to "guard fleet".
I can see pictures of mining ops going on with many many drones just flying around like a swarm waiting for something to agress then all of them attack.

You are quite quick in dismissing the idea on the basis of AFK playing. I did not mention AFK mining at all, nor high sec mining. Mining was just an example, as I thought of it while flying in a mining fleet. I think it could have interesting applications in other fleet situations, and as a fleet commander, any tools you can give me to handle a fleet I am always happy to take. |
