I currently fly a paladin, it works good but every now and then I get an angel mission. That takes to long in a paladin really to be worth it I think so I just refuse and get another.
I have recently gotten minmitar battleship 5, large autocannon 4, and tons and tons of shield skills. Mealstrom cuts threw angels like a hot knife in butter.
Im looking at the vargur now. Im thinking of replaceing my paladin with a vargur but thats one hell of an investment. Anyone here fly a vargur on sansha missions tell me how you like it?
If I do end up with the vargur Ill just sell the paladin I think.
Any advice thank you

I don't know how many non-sansha/blood missions you get but a vargur will do them well, even guristas because of phased plasma.
Paladin will be superior to the vargur though for blood/sansha missions.

Vargur can kill any type of rats very fast if you have t2 autocannons + support gunnery skills trained, since you can alternate ammo (fusion, emp, phase plasma etc) to match rats resistance weakness. Properly skilled/fitted Vargur is among few very best mission ships so investment is well worth it.

support gunnery skills are maxed. litterally. the only ones that arent at level 5 are the large autocannon specialization and thats 4. Ill give it a ride for a bit. If worse comes to worse I can always sell it.
Its time for a change anyway. Ive been flying a paladin for a LONG time.

Just keep Paladin. WTF are you thinking? Vs blood/sanshas Pala is much better than Vargur. Ofc you can buy Vargur/Mach just for running AE if you want but selling Pala is not worth it unless you want to move to Matar space.

I have both, and a nightmare, and a macha, and a well pretty much everything that would be considered good for mission running.
and in amarr space I'd much rather have the paladin if I could only choose one. for the occasional AE it just isn't worth switching.

Keep the Paladin. Buy a Vargur. Pick whichever one you like flying most for whatever mission. :)

Just throwing this out there, but there are 2 big advantages to using the varg over the pally:
1)Last time I checked rats still used the OLD kind of TDs, meaning they drop optimal, but not falloff. An AC varg will just shrug off the TDs whereas a pally gets hit hard by them.
2)EMP L has a damage distribution of 36 EM, 8 exp, and 4 kin. Multi L has a damage distribution of 28 EM, and 24 therm. EMP hits for more EM damage than multifrequency does
That and the vargur is a much better ship overall. |

On the flip side, 28 EM + 24 Therm is generally better vs EM weak enemies than than 36 EM + 8 Exp + 4 Kin even before you consider optimal vs falloff. The TD thing I agree with.

Then use Phased Plasma L.
40 Therm, 8 Kin ftw.

If I remember correctly (and that isn't always the case), TDs cut falloff prior to Dominion...which was the source of one of the major complains that TE and TCs didn't increase falloff to compensate.
I could be totally wrong however, or the above statement could be true and NPCs still didn't reduce falloff anyway. I haven't done a proper Sansha mission in forever.
In any case that would be news to me and seems like something that should be fixed. ùùùùù

Once i got the vargur, i found i was usuing my paladin less and less until i accepted the fact that the varg does the blood/sansha missions just as fast (if not quicker) as the pally did and got rid of it. - and i much prefer shield tanking for pve anyway.
Vargur is the one marauder to rule them all.

I don't remember specific patches, but originally TDs did NOT reduce falloff, then CCP changed it (post-amarr-buff). They never bothered changing the npc TDs though, cuz really who the hell complains about that? |

Nah, they don't and never have had an effect on falloff. When player TDs were changed, they didn't change the npc TDs.

wow some serious great replys here. I havent had a chance to test the vargur I just bought but Im going to give it a shot soon. I didnt even think of of the td as far as not being an issue with the vargur. Honestly sometimes I avoid blockaid because it just gets annoying. Thank you all for the info.

I have to agree with the others. If you have Minmatar BS 5, T2 large ACs AND fly Marauders, there¦s simply no sane reason to avoid flying a Vargur.
Sell the Paladin to buy one of them nice Gist X-large shield boosters for the Vargur. I wish I had one. ______________ Mal-¦Appears we got here just in a nick of time. What does that make us?¦ Zoe-`Big damn heroes, sir.` Mal-¦Aint we just.¦ |
