They don't exactly buy them. They are more like currency themselves that gets spent on other stuff as "required items" in the LP store. Or you could sell them to players for the isk.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'm pretty noobish, as I look at the costs of LP store items, I'm wondering if it would be best to sell them for cash until I'm doing things that generate more LP?

If you're strapped for cash, yeah sell them, otherwise I always hang on to them just in case. It's hard to compete in the LP store as a business since FW guys get stuff at a huge discount, and get piles of LP thrown at them all the time. There are some items that are worth buying with LP, but ultimately, math is your friend.

Basically, sell the tags. On a sell order, not to the highest buy order, if you can. Not worth trying to compete for LP items if you're not quickly completing lvl4 missions.
Better yet, turn down vs Amarr missions with your agent, if there's another one you can use nearby in case you get two in a row. Too much shooting at Amarr ships, and you'll no longer be welcome in Amarr space. There's skills to fix that stuff, and programs to fix badly-mangled standings. All that stuff can be found online. But, as they say, ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
