Here's something that's been bugging me. I have a corpmate who has a Nemesis, and uses it to gank barges/exhumers he finds in our static wh from time to time. Being in charge of ammo production (When they don't need me in my scorpion/rook) I make the bombs he uses, and I don't think I've ever had him ask for something other than electron or shrapnel bombs.
Now, what I don't get is, being in a Nemesis, wouldn't he do more damage with scorch bombs? Like almost 1k alpha more? Wouldn't that make up for the fact that thermal is tanked more, on average?
I have A bomber of my own, but I confess (shamefully) that I've never used it in PvP...In fact, I don't even think it has a bomb launcher
...I bought it when bombers still used cruises...

For normal PvP in null sec, you'd want to fit it to be something other than normal rat racial damage (AKA, Explosive in drones regions).
For wormholes, people usually tank for omni or don't (native resists). Most barges have low EM starting. You can either use EM or racial type. If he's fitting anything else, maybe he has a reason.
PS: Standard gank Way is 1) Get at 35km or so. 2) launch Torp, wait 2 seconds, launch bomb (should make a simultaneous explosion) 3) Keep spamming torps.
Step 2 often makes people freak out (bomb coming at with a big giant amount of damage).

Didn't really think people flew the nemesis/manti ^^
I use exclusively electron on my hound though, helps to alpha that nasty shield away so explo torps can start hitting armour earlier

Although he's bonussed to thermal bombs he's also bonussed to thermal torps and my guess is that he's adding a second damage type by using non-racial bombs. --

nemesis kinda sucks horribily tho. manticore at the very least has enough CPU to run MSE + makeshift ewar (damps, TD's). ---

Nope, it's usually shrapnel, occasionally electron. Altho I think he carries one lockbreaker for emergencies.

Ok, I guess that makes the shrapnels make sense...but not the electrons. Just doing a quick check in eft, with cov-ops V (which I'm pretty sure he has. He specializes in cloaky) a scorch bomb would give him 8k alpha; whereas an electron is only 6.4k. Surely a 1.6k difference in damage would overcome the difference in resists...I don't know anyone who tanks THAT heavily versus thermal; EM on the other hand is usually tanked hardcore on shield ships.

Yeah, he says that too. He refuses to train Amarr/Minmatar. We don't know why, and we usually blame it on the fact he's Hawaiian ^_^. Honestly , it'll affect my decision on bombers tho, since soon there will be another Black Ops pilot in corp and I'll no longer have to be the sole catapult hurling bombers at whatever poor sod our arazu has tackled.
Probably go with a purifier. I'll leave my Manticore with it's cruise launcher II's equipped as a historical artifact of bygone times...

Tanking a bomber is pointless, Nemesis does it's job just fine.

I tried bombers. I liked them a lot, so I am using a lot of time currently polishing skills for them.
As a 100% Gallente pilot, I started out in the Nemesis. Wasn't too bad, but I had poor performance with Thermal damage in...every scenario, actually.
I finally decided to waste a week and train Minmatar frigate V. And I was glad I did.
It can fit my choice of highs (3 Torp launcher + Bomb launcher + cloak) with no fitting mods. Fitting is EXTREMELY easy compared to the Nemesis. Also, I can put two nanos and one BCU II in the lows, making it align very, very quickly.
Unlike the Nemesis.
Also, explosive damage is better.
So, even if you don't like to consider crosstraining (like myself), changing your bomber is only one week away. Except the racial frigate, all the skillsets are the same, so...
Really, really worth training for the Hound (or the Purifier, I guess) if you want to use Bombers.

my MSE hound might have another story for you
MSE bombers can hold for a bit against drones actually, that's the whole point of the MSE. saw too many bombers dying to a drone swarm because they "forgot" to warp out.
even without MSE, the manticore is much better than the nemesis because it actually has CPU to fit a core probe launcher packed with Ewar gadgetry and/or damage mods. nemesis can't, because of lacking cpu.
it's also the most brick-like ship of all bombers, sometimes being a full second slower to align than the manticore setup depending, and the manticore is quite slow already.
with all that, only thing the nemesis has going for it is thermal damage bonuses.
well if you use the nemesis as just a bomb launcher with no mods fitted tho, that's a whole 'nother story. ---
