Edited by: Lord Abako on 25/02/2011 10:04:21 Good day Crime and Punishment! Guess who? Someone most of you probably have never heard of, that's who! Anyways for those who do know, it's Lord Abako, and it will soon be time for me to provide you all with another story of yarrage, tears, piracy, and all the good stuff that people come to this board to see. But seeing as how I am still writing said story, youÆre gonna have to wait. In the mean time, I have been wondering something for a while now and thought it would be good to ask you fine people (and I do use that term loosely).
So basically, I have been looking around the game and noticing that I donÆt see many people out there griefing for its own sake on a large scale. Let me explain what I mean by this. Most griefers that you see fall under the guise of pirates, gankers, and pvpers. Pirates meaning individuals who kill, and/or war dec for the explicit purpose of gaining profit in some way. This is of course fine, and a well respected form of play.
Then comes the gankers, people who suicide, infiltrate, or find some way to kill their target ship for the goodies or the awesome killmail. Also good.
And then there are your standard pvp corps, and mercs, who dec people for a fight or because their paid to.
All of these are perfectly natural parts of the EVE universe. What I rarely see anymore is the people like me and a few of my friends, who go after people for the expressed purpose of causing chaos and making someoneÆs life hell. In essence, griefing pure and simple.
Whether or not this is allowed by the EULA has always been hotly debated. Most people turn to the anti-griefing clause that CCP puts forward that states:
A grief player, or "griefer," is a player who devotes much of his time to making othersÆ lives miserable, in a large part deriving his enjoyment of the game from these activities while he does not profit from it in any way. Grief tactics are the mechanics a griefer will utilize to antagonize other players.
This should not be confused with standard conflict that might arise between two players. At our discretion, players who are found to be consistently maliciously interfering with the game experience for others may receive a warning, temporary suspension or permanent banning of his account.
An example of grief play would be the so called "Can baiting" in starter systems. An experienced player drops a cargo container with some items in front of a station in a starter system and waits for a new player to take from it. The new player is flagged and promptly attacked and killed by the owner of the container. Doing the same in starter tutorial complexes is also considered grief play and will not be tolerated.
This is very vague because it seems to be mainly geared towards protecting newer players and keeping things from disrupting the operations of people joining the game. Also most people will interpret this as saying ôYou are not allowed to do anything that I take offense or issue with you doingö. This is very far from the truth. During my time with TRAPS, Nexa Necis used to constantly have people accusing him of violating the EULA with his tactics, while the GMs completely supported his right to harass and kill other people to his hearts content.
So before I drone further on with an argument over whether or not this is, or should be, allowed, let me pose my question to you.
Are there any disciplined corporations out there that conduct large scale wars in high sec for no other reason than because they feel like it, or want to make someone mad, on a continuous basis? People who are willing to pursue a target for as long as it takes, until they either pay up a hefty fee to be left alone, or until they close down completely. People who will not just war dec a target for a week or two and then move on. Focused, systematic griefing. Or are there any pilots who are interested in this type of activity? I want to know who out there shares the views of me and my friends.

There's this thing going on called Hulkageddon right now, maybe you've heard of it? It's for gankers, not griefers as we take no official pleasure in the act of weeding out the stupid, but it's a job that must be done lest Eve die

While I used to love reading Nexa's articles on evepirate, I can't help but feel like he took it all a bit too seriously. At times it seemed as if his griefing was as a result of him being griefed or butthurt by the actions of idiots in eve.
Griefing people in eve isn't as fun as it is in other games simply because it is allowed. I would grief people in many popular online shooters back when myg0t was where all the cool kids (read: tards) hung out and it was far more satisfying than griefing people in eve. Even wow is a better game to grief in.
This is probably due to eve having a more mature audience than other games. And the immature flamers tend to learn after a week or two of harassment. Sure, there are still a few of those that just didn't seem to learn and Nexa was a master in attracting those wonderful people to himself. What happened to him anyway?

I've never been able to find out what happend to him. He simply up and vanished one day, and TRAPS died because he had sole control of the corporation. So there were no wars to be had. Sad really, it was a lot of fun.

So why don't you old TRAPS guys get back together and start a new corp to fill the void that you described in the OP?

Ugh high sec wars. People generally avoid what you describe because it's awfully boring and your targets will just corp hop to oblivion and CCP won't care.

Aren't you those guys that salvage wrecks in other people's L4 missions in T1 frigs and then come to C+P pretending like someone cares? Yeah, as a matter of fact I have heard of you. Can I join?

Relevance is the most important thing ever, if you're not relevant you should just crawl in a hole and die.

Yeah a couple of us tried that for a while. We did well and had fun but people decided to go in different directions for the most part. So here I am seeing who else is like us.

Yup, have a couple of friends in Suddenly Ninjas. Not exactly what I was describing but I like you guys.
So no one has any suggestions for corps? |

Yo, another faceless alt with no combat record
Start killing faction/pirate/t2 battleships in a Vigil and maybe one day you too will be relevant.

I think the reason CCP doesn't want people can-baiting is because it might discourage new players into leaving EVE before they've been suicide ganked, corp killed, war targeted, scammed, or lost an expensive ship in low or nullsec trying to "see what it's like." (I know someone who ragequit the game for this reason, poor guy thinking he could go solo in a BS.)
Anyway, I guess griefing for its own sake can be justified through RP reasons, but the funny thing is every time I try it I end up making money, darn.

I'm currently in an "alt corp" while waiting for a war deck to cool down. My parent corp was war decked by Mongrel Mob (what we think is a PVP training corp for Lone Trek Salvage and Scrap). We've had fun, with the last engagement being one of the longest PVP battles I've ever been in (went on for at least 5 minutes before we broke off). Simply put we could not break through MMs neutral remote rep (mad props to their logistics pilots -you guys ROCK!). So MM, or LTSS, might be a corp you're looking for.
Footnote: All of the guys in my parent corp have caught the "PVP bug" as a result of the war, and we are currently practicing battle tactics / load outs on the test server. We'll probably end up war decking a high sec industrial corp just for the lols

Ps. If you got his headgear, plx send it C.O.D. to me, would a Wyvern be sufficient to cover the shipping? -
