Hi,
Is it wise to use a ship like a cruiser or other frig to scan down mission sites and use it to loot and salvage the wrecks?
I am using heron at the moment for its bonuses but I can only fit 1 salvager on it which takes too much time to salvage the wreck...
I was thinking about using like a cruiser like a stabber or scythe to fit expanded probe launcher and number of salvagers on it as well as some probe scan strength rigs.
I know you can use a destroyer to fly in but I dont want to waste too much time flying to the station and changing ships... I want 1 ship to scan and ninja salvage...

Get Salvaging to 5 and use Salvager II + one or two salvage tackles?

Yeah you'd know since you can totally probe people out with that fit...

The most effective way is to have two ships.
One for scanning: astrometrics frigate like Probe will do. One for salvaging: a fast frig with sufficient High slots (Vigil is the best choice here).
Both can be fitted without much investment and still be very effective at their job.
Find your target with your scan ship, bookmark location, dock, switch to your salvage ship and go collect :)

Yeah that's what I do too, Imicus rigged for scanning and Catalyst with 10MN AB for ~MWD speeds and 8 salvager IIs really eats up wrecks. Though can't really chase down a wreck being tractored by a marauder, but if you can keep up with it for a few seconds 1 of those salvagers usually can nab it before the missioner can reel it in

Yeah I just got myself a kestrel with 4 salvagers and AB... lost a cormorant yesterday to a paladin.
Marauders are being quite the pain the ass when trying to ninja salvage :P as well these new Noctis ships are pain as well... Seems like CCP actually is doing something to prevent ninja salvaging.

Nah, they're just making it more interesting in terms of the ships a ninja gets on his KB. Noctis are an awesome development and as a result, more mission runners care about their loot and salvage again. Getting the Noctis to turn red is the tricksy part.
Best practices for MOST ninja work as outlined above:
Scan for Mission Runners in a fully kitted scan frig w/ 2X Grav rigs and sisters gear unitl you can upgrade to a proper Cov Ops frig. Collect hits for 5 minutes or so. Swap to your ninja frigate (Vigil or Drami are far and away the best for normal work) or ninja cruiser (stabber, SFI, Cyna) and go from hit to hit 'til you find one worth harvesting. Proper ninja cruiser has the probe launcher mounted. No need to loose time switching ships. Proper ninja cruiser is (in most cases) quite hard to instapop too. Screw frigates, use cruisers!

I know you can use a destroyer to fly in but I dont want to waste too much time flying to the station and changing ships... I want 1 ship to scan and ninja salvage...
Some things you need to consider:
The majority of salvage is in large wrecks. The majority of loot value is split fairly evenly between large and medium wrecks save for the coveted Arbalest Heavy Missile Launcher.
Set the way-back machine to before Tyrannis expansion, before the large wreck loot nerfs. At the time I was a ninja salvager/looter. I could net 300mil/week with about 2 hours a day. The trick was to probe out only level 4 missions and salvage/loot only the large wrecks. Using a cruiser to fulfill both the probing and salvaging/looting roles was ideal even if the ship was slow compared to a frigate capable of +2000m/s speeds. The cargo space saved on trips back to station to offload.
After the loot nerfs I saw my income drop over half, significantly enough to decide to do something else. The effects of the loot nerf was 2 fold. 1) to limit the amount of valuable large wreck mod drops and 2) to devalue the large wreck loot that did drop since CCP made previously coveted meta4 items drop with increased frequency.
At present, I do not believe looting is viable for maximizing profit because of the low frequency of large loot drops. However, considering that most of the salvage value in a mission is still in the large wrecks you'd be wise focus only on the large wrecks. Because it's only salvage, all you need is a fast frigate fitted to handle the task as quickly as possible. The only mission sites worth salvaging, IMO are drone missions. So, it may be handy to have a cruiser salvager at a local station ready to fly. Of course, my perspective is that I could never make as much as I did before the loot nerfs. It may well be worth your effort to loot and salvage large wrecks. But I still believe, that if you ninja focusing on the large wrecks and level 4 missions is the way to do it for maximal profit.
As for the ship, if you're going to loot a cruiser would be beneficial in two aspects. 1) You can fit enough salvagers and an expanded probe launcher thereby saving you time switching ships between a prober and salvager and 2) It'll give you decent cargo space saving you time with having to go back to station to offload. Another trick is to park GSC somewhere in space and anchor them and use them for quick offloads saving docking/undocking times.
If you decide to only salvage and not loot a one ship option is a T2 frigate. I used to use a Nemesis to both salvage and fit an expanded probe launcher. I would probe more sites as I salvaged ;)
