Edited by: Mister Kwong on 25/02/2011 20:46:24 I'm in a C3 and yesterday we had a full spawn of 20 sleeper sites. Today, there are only 8 left. I checked Jovelabs and Staticmapper and there are listings of no NPC kills. Assuming the data is uptodate and no lag, what would account for the despawning?

Initiating warp to will clear the site in 3-4 days. Clearing the site will wipe it out within a few minutes or at the next DT. Alternatively, since you said there were NPC kills, someone could've raided your hole.

Sorry- I meant to say that there no NPC kills in the past 24 hours. Does initating warp to but then stopping warp still trigger the site? That's the only thing I can think of. But most of my guys haven't even touched the sites in the past several days so not sure why they would despawn.

The sites also despawn after 3 days even if not warped to. Basically you have a max of 5-6 days to run any sites in system. As I understand it, if you manage to warp to grid (for the first time)near the end of the 3rd day for the site, the timer resets and give you another 3 days (if you don't hit the completion trigger while you are there).

This is absolutely false.
If there is a timer for sites to despawn from never being warped to, it is way longer than 3 days.

This person is correct, I still have Grav sites from 14th Feb in my C4 that have not (to my knowledge) been warped to. I think they've been there since the 11th Feb but I only put a definate date on them on the 14th. Regardless it's still 12 days so far. (Don't argue with my maths...it's the 26th here.)
In that time I havent had a Radar/Mag spawn. I've despawned the "lesser" industry type and only left the Core Gravs up. There's still 7 Currently. I have had 1 Core Grav despawn on its own, but can't say if it got warped to or not, since I've had 3 days in a row with incoming connections in the last week.

Yes. If it triggers the popup window you can consider the grid loaded and the timer started.

Edited by: Substantia Nigra on 28/02/2011 19:58:19 Edited by: Substantia Nigra on 28/02/2011 19:55:13 Unless a sig / anom is 'activated' it lasts virtually forever (3 months is the max we've nurtured a grav site before a vandal got to it). Once it's activated its despawn timer starts and it disappears after a variable time .... 16 hours - 3 days (ish).
To activate the despawn timer on a site you either: - warp onto the grid of the site by warping to it or warping to it "within [x] km" (cloaked or uncloaked); - commencing and then cancelling a warp to it, or to "within [x] km" of it.
So 20+ sites can be readily 'killed', without a sleeper death, by someone warping to them all or commencing a warp to them all. They linger for a few days, but you don't know they're on their way out. This is a fairly common form of w-space vandalism.

There seem to be 2 timers:
* Timer 1: How long an unvisited site exists. This seems to be a relatively long time.
* Timer 2: How long a site exists after initiating warp to it. This seems to be about 3-4 days.
Once a site is clean, it tends to vanish when people leave grid, or shortly thereafter. Stubborn completed sites will vanish after downtime though.
Check for jumps through your system. Many people make it a habit to initiate a warp to all sigs to force a despawn, so that their home system is more likely to get a spawn.

If there is a timer for unvisited sites at all, it is extremely long. I recently watched sites I had scanned but not visited in a backwater system for almost three weeks (and as there were a lot of sites in the system when I first scanned it some of them must have been there for some time already). So I believe the above poster who said he had a site in his system for months. A month-long timer would be rather pointless, so I'm quite sure there is no timer.
In said backwater system after three weeks I initiated and then cancelled warp to all grav and ladar sites, and after four days they were all gone, more than a dozen at once. So:
-site signatures (as well as wormhole signatures) stay forever unless warped to -after warped to they despawn during following downtime when three or four days have elapsed
If you see sites despawning in your system that you never touched, it is because some visitor initiated warp to them. There are people who do this in every system they visit, just to take the sites from you, and maybe hope they will respawn in their own system.

Our corp has a standard policy to warp to every site when we visit a new wormhole, We find it rather annoying to have a corp that has upwards of 10 grav and ladar sites in one wormhole. By our best guesses combat sites will despawn next down time after 72 hours have passed from inital warpin grav and ladar are slightly longer, and radar and mag are less then 24 hrs some despawn instantly some hold on till down time.

Aahhh, so it was you ... evil monsters :-)
I'd happily trade my 20+ grav / ladars for a half dozen decent radar / mag sites. It does seem, though, that every time I finally decide to go clear all the ladar / grav sites that have accumulated, someone from GhettoChick's corp (or other similarly minded) K162s in and messes with them all. Oh well.

My alt was in a class 4 for a year the sites will stay as long as you only scan them down and bookmark them and not load the grid.
The longest bookmark combat site in the class 4 was a mag site and it lasted 3 months until we stopped mining to cleared the site.
We used http://evemaps.dotlan.net/region to find out if there were jumps in the WH.
