When probing for wormholes and other stuff, I often get a 99.99% signal strength result - even with Core scanner probes set at 0.25 AU. This is of course is useless since I cant jump to it.
I currently have: Astro Rangefinding 4 Astro Deviation 3
Does anyone with Max skills know if training these to 5 makes a noticable difference in scanning result quality?

Erotic self-asphyxiation is a bad thing man. Don't do it. You might end up like Carradine in a Bangkok hotel closet somewhere.

Additionally to your 0-8-15 core probes and launcher use:
- Sisters Probe Launcher
- Sisters Core Probes
- Gravimetric Rigs
- Covert Ops
- PPH-x Implants

Ok. Thanks for that.... but does anyone know the answer to the question?

What sort of pattern are you using? Something that small might by positioning and the way that you scan. __________ A note on voting for CSM 6: Do not vote for someone just because they named issues that you support, instead try to gauge the thinking behind them and try to vote for someone who w |

Edited by: Shoopa Whoopa on 27/02/2011 10:09:09 Main has Astrometrics 4, Aquisition/Rangefinding/Pinpointing 3, and so far he managed to scan down everything he got any result for using ordinary probes and a Heron (Caldari Frigate 4).
I'm quite sure that if you get 99,99% you should be able to get 100%, skill & equipment wise.

If you can get the result to 95%, you can get it to 100%. Just get rid of the 5th probe, ok? Thank me later. Here is an example, top view:
######O###### ####O#x#O#### ######O######
Where X is the signature, and O the probes.

Try inching the probes closer to the signature, move one of the probes out of the plane, have 5 probes in a big "plus sign" formation (i.e.: + with a probe at each point and one in the intersection), get better skills and/or equipment.

If one of the "other stuffs" you're probing happens to be the non-probeable Loki setup, that could explain it as well. If it's wormholes and stuff like that, then just move the probes a bit closer, jiggle them around a bit, you should get it after another scan or two. ---------------------------------------------- I don't have an alt, but there's a main that would be upset if he heard me say that... |

99.999% means you have the probe on the object and are not doing it right.

Use the above system but place the 5th probe on top of the signature. Does wonders! :)

The planar cross described above are one of the mathematically optimal probe layouts, however, it is very easy to screw up, since even a very slight misplacement of one of the probes leads to a drastic reduction in signal strength.
A more mistake-resistant, mathematically optimal probe formation is a tetrahedron with the site in the centre of the volume, equally far from every probe. (see this thread for more info)

I've never needed 5 probes to scan down a site, even when I was doing it in a punisher without rigs and mediocre skills. I've always been able to use 4 probes. I honestly don't understand why everyone is talking about having 5 probes.
The guy with the top-down view with 4 probes is how I've always been doing it, and I've never been unable to scan a site down. OP, take his advice.

Nice to know that someone's tried to reverse engineer the calculations :)
This also explains why some people get better results without the fifth probe in the cross.
