What are some of the boneheaded mistakes you have made in your EVE career that others can learn from?
My most memorable was losing a whole level of a skill by death jumping without making sure my med clone was updated.
That, and getting into a pvp fight and never having activated my DC unit...lol Your still a child in the eyes of the universe |

Oh please, I dropped a carrier on VFK-IV after two years of gameplay. You think EVE's learning curve ever finishes? "We will create the introduction thread if that is requested by the community. Also, we will have an ISD Seminar about the CCL team in the coming weeks in which you can ask your questions about the CCL team and provide some constructive feedback to us." - Countless pages of locked threads and numerous permabanned accounts later, change is coming. |

There was a warning, it usually went something like "You are unable to warp because you are scrambled" |

I also lost my first ship in lowsec before the warning was added. Thing is, I knew to avoid lowsec, because I'd done some homework. What I DIDN'T know is that regional markets include some lowsec and some high sec systems. I bought something or other in Old Man Star (I think that was the system name), assuming it was a High Sec region, took my shiny new Vexor (which I had spent the bulk of my money on), and took off. I was greeted by flashies and explosions. I didn't play for the next week I was so disappointed by the loss.
Vexor is still one of my favorite hulls, though. |

lol that sucks. I am fortunate that I havent been in a situation where I lost a ship worth so much I wanted to take a break. But my fellow ****** of a corp mate bought a shiny new Mackinaw and said to himself he wanted to test it out. Sure enough, his first outting he was suicide ganked.
So I say, how much is the insurance payout? "I didnt insure it, i just wanted to test it..."

heh, funny thing about that, I bought a shuttle on the go too, and somehow got 500m from buying the dang thing. I still wonder how the hell that happened even Petitioned it and the GM told me not to worry about it.

My painful lesson was that it was days before I figured out that I should have a skill training.
Yup, I jumped into this game without a clue what it was except it had spaceships. And I like spaceships.
EDIT: I should add that I also managed to wander all the way into 0.0 in a Badger II fit with a smart bomb and a mining laser before discovering the error of my ways.
Ahh...those were the days.

I was doing a 15KM gauntlet run in Amamake to high sec, in a capsule, complaining in local about how dunb it feels to lose yet one more ship and be flying around in a little panty-hose container (the old capsule).
People were like "dude, STFU you want to get popped?".
But it gets worse. In fact, I am King of Bonehead:
I used to think all those faction and deadspace modules were junk when no value came up for them when trying to sell them.
Yeah, guess what I did. |

some of my first ship fittings were horrible atrocities against all of eve at the time as I started learning to play. At the time I hadn't learned about killboards or reading about fittings and what various mods passively did to your ship. So I ended up with hilarious crap like.. cargo expanders on a thorax hull.
the lesson from this is that you should read and pay attention to killboards and ask people for fitting advice and fully read the attributes of what mods do to your ship.
secondly, don't log in while drunk. i did that recently, and almost bought a billion isk worth of skillbooks when i thought it was SISI i was on.
lesson from that is.. don't log in while drunk, and if you have multiple installs, be very aware of which server you're connecting to.
Trust your gut instinct. I've had a number of people try to appeal to my sense of greed, or superior knowledge or capability or whatever in an attempt to get close to me and screw me over. They were transparent considering the circumstances, so I laughed at them or played with them for a bit before shutting them down.
lesson from that is.. use logic, and trust your instinct of people and their intent considering the situation you're in. it can and will save you much pain and embarrassment.
if you think someone is an alt, they MOST LIKELY are. Again with the above, ive had people try to use alts to pull one over on me for various reasons, or evade being detected, or seperate their mains from whatever evil they were pulling, so as to not damage their main reputation. if you think someone is an alt, they are, without question until proven beyond a shadow of a doubt otherwise. |

During my early days when I had a piratical streak I decided to move some stuff I had in high sec. Having a low sec status but not a fullblown outlaw yet I set a route to fly and loaded a Drake with about 100mil worth of stuff. This happened before we had any avoidance features btw.
So I trundle on, semiafk, not really paying attention to the route markers (I could enter freely up to .6 sec systems) as I was also pirating with my second account. Imagine my surprise when suddenly something stops me from warping away from the gate. So I take a quick look and *oops* .7 sec system, scrammed and webbed by the police, 14km from the gate in a heavily tanked Drake with no propmod.
So, what can one do but set approach to gate and hope the tank holds long enough. I died 3km from the gate. Lost pretty much everything that was in cargo, something like 1 or 2 mil worth of useless stuff survived, never went back for them.
After that as a pirate I DID keep a better eye out for system sec :P
