Hey everyone.
Just like everyone else, every now and then I get slightly bored with EVE. When something like that happens I usually have a go at another game.
Recently I've discovered Battlestar Galactica (I know I know, I'm ridiculous), and the whole theme of the series is amazing. I just love experiencing the inner workings of the ships and crews that operate them. One of the cooler scenes for me was in the initial episode when Lee flew the Viper in manually and I was able to appreciate the well thought out layout of the deck of Galactica.
Now, something I've been wondering is are there any good games I've just never heard about that capture the same feel? What I'm looking for is a game in which I can take the "back seat" almost, and not take the role of the top-dog leader. Where I can report and fly as a simple crew member and experience a different type of game. A cherry on top would be a game that was extremely detailed, and you were able to experience things like docking, landing, taking off, dog fights, etc. Multiplayer would be number 3 in my pants, but you can't ask for everything :p
Anyway, just figured I'd ask considering this community tends to know a little more than other online communities.
Thanks!

Eh the plots of egosofts games (x3 terran conflict mostly) are generally the usual 'go do this, blow up that' missions and such.
The rest of the game, the freeform rpg part, might not be what you are looking for, but it should segway into that easily enough if you arent paying attention :p

I'm looking for something non-rts. Something with some immersion. For me, being god over units isn't exactly what I'd call immersian.

Star Control 2.
It's the precursor to mass effect IMHO.
graphics are very bad but the gameplay is fun.

Well, there are quite a few classic space shooters, some of which are pretty cool story (and action) wise.. but they tend to be old.
Wing Commander, Homeworld, Freespace, Starlancer, X-Wing Series... I loved those games, but some don't even work on XP due to age.. and a Joystick is recommended.

Idk I don't think many of those games are really what I'm looking for. Maybe it just doesn't exist.
I'm just really tired of constantly being the one in charge, and would like to experience things as the little guy that's trying to push the line and get the job done. I'd like a game where just because you didn't complete a mission to 100% completion doesn't mean the game is over. I want a living, breathing game.
What about a game where, because you lost in a particular battle, or because a particular individual dies, the game is irreversibly changed, but not LOST. It just goes in a different direction.
I'm not sure that gaming has really gotten to that point, or if I'm explaining myself well at all (likely not), but maybe in time. In time.

Most of those types of space games came out in the late 90's, early 2000's. Wing Commander, etc...
X3 might be good for you, if you can deal with the... well... lower value voice acting and graphics. Just throwing it out there, though.

Edited by: Marcus Druallis on 02/03/2011 00:58:26 Idk, I gave X3 a try, but again, it seems to be one of those, if you don't directly create it, it won't happen type of games.
I'm looking for something so much more interactive. A game where I don't feel like I'm the only one thinking.
EDIT: Wrong char --

I've found what I'm looking for, in a way.
Battefield 3 looks like it's exactly what I'm asking for in the feel of the game (minus the entire atmostphere), but I'm hoping it will result in more games being made like it. Watch the extended trailer. You are simply a PART of the game, not LEADING the game. I guess only time will tell.
Thank you.

A mix of that, and maybe some of the fallout features (sandbox feel) would be grand. I just wish someone would make something of the sort.
I love how you chose a game that has NOTHING to do with what you were talking about and isnt even out yet.

That's because you didn't read the entire posts. I even mentioned in my post that it doesn't have anything to do with the outer space theme, but reading about the upcoming game and watching videos, shows a feeling of just being a part of a major story, rather than the narrator, main character, and problem solver.
I'm tired of games where you are the end-all-be-all of the entire game. Games like this lack a certain feeling of a living, breathing world. I want a world where I can react to it, rather than fully create it.
