Edited by: Nimaz on 28/02/2011 22:07:01 Edited by: Nimaz on 28/02/2011 22:06:35 So, i found my favorite highsec system that has like 50 moons in it where i want my POS. but every single moon is occupied. then i noticed that some of the POSs were abandoned or whatnot. forcefield down. a few of them had ff down and a couple of jammers anchored scattered around it. How does one go about obtaining this spot for my own tower?

Declare war against the owning corp and after 24 hours start shooting. If you shoot down the tower you can either scoop the anchored structures and use/sell them or shoot them too and hope, they drop something...

Or hire a merc corp to take down a tower, once it is down, install your own :)

I agree with this post, however, you might want to do some research. Look up the corp that owns the POS and see how many people are in the Corp. If they have like one guy in it, add that guy and put him on your watch list. If he doesn't log on for a week or so, chances are he is taking a hiatus from EVE (as we all know you don't really quit EVE but take long breaks from it from time to time). Once it is assured he isn't around then go ahead and blow the tower. I say this because I knew of one clown who took down a tower belonging to a PvP corp that had moved into 0.0 and was just keeping the tower anchored for later use in case needed. This clown didn't do his homework, declared war, took down the tower then wondered why his Industrial corp was waged in a long term war against this PvP corp who were miffed to say the least. Being interested in a Hi Sec POS assures me that I am right to think you are an Industrial type of guy and, as we all know, in Industry doing your homework pays for itself in dividends.

I always wondered, what possible use does a POS have in high-sec other than having a corporate hangar or a silo on it? I mean, no one can moon mine in hi-sec (let alone refine) without having to move into low-sec or null-sec space.

Research POS -- lab queues in high-sec can be several weeks long.

Assembly arrays too, especially if you are located in a system where all the NPC manufacturing slots are always full.
I re-fueled my tower this morning. The current cost of fuel is 272m/month for a large, which is less than the profit I earn from 1 manufacturing slot.

I see. I'll remember to make sure my POS is well fueled. Don't want my POS to get destroyed like those mentioned by Nimaz. By the way, can a pilot in a NPC corp anchor a POS for themselves? Or do I have to be in a privately-own corp to do that? Pardon the noobish questions as this is a first time I have to manage a POS.

You cannot anchor a control tower if you are in an NPC corp.

You must be in a player-owned corp, with the appropriate roles assigned. I believe the appropriate role for deploying a starbase is "Config Starbase Equipment". -- [Aussie players: join ANZAC channel] |

You must be in a player corp, and the corp has to have appropriate standings with the faction where you intend on anchoring. Faction standings are really only an issue for highsec systems.
I have a faction standings service for anchoring in highsec. There are a few others as well in the sell orders board if you lack sufficient standings with any of the factions to anchor. - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring
