I was mining the other day with a few friends and we were thinking about ways to spend time while listening to the gentle hum of the mining lasers..
How difficult would it be to include a card game of sorts into the game? Nothing fancy, maybe a simple poker game, where one could bet ISK while playing against people in their gang or in the same location?
I know it would be possible to play EVE in windowed mode and use any of the myriad available card games out there, but that doesn't really suspend the disbelief

I was thinking along the lines of a simple chess client or possibly draughts. It would be a great way to pass the time when on a long journey or mining. There would have to be some kind of sa***uard to prevent people logging out to avoid losing money if there were bets.

yeah some kind of gambling or simple card game would be nice or even chess =D

Surely there is a 3rd party client out there somewhere for this sort of thing. With customizable skins, a dedicated Eveite could easilly customize an EVE centric version for popular consumption.
I have the vague feeling that I've just helped spawn a marginally profitable new product for some company. I accept royalties in isk and checks primarilly. The sending of Hot Cocoa Sampler Packs will result in podding.

I'd say a big yes to a multiplayer card game to while away the hours mining but I'd put in some points:
Only allow it between gang members in Space
Allow bets for ISK on it
Make it a new type of game with 'different' cards. This is supposed to by a civilisation cut off from Earth for thousands of years. I doubt anyone brought a pack of 52 and the rules of poker.
Put a 'Casino' in certain stations to allow playing the game in station.

Casino into some stations :)
Now that is a business idea.
it would rock to come into a casino with your new ISK from a mining trip and bet a cool million on zero in roulette and hitting it! (chances would be low i know)

Actually, this would not only be alot of fun, but in-station casinos would be the perfect money sink, just what CCP wants to prevent everyone from owning a titan.
