Yeah. Got tired of mashing d-scan. Never boarded a mining vessel since then. Bad memories, you know...

I've found wormholes to be a warm, fuzzy comforting place of solace where one can enjoy a relaxing afternoon of mining without the annoyance of wanna-be faux pirates and can-flipping alts buzzing around becoming a nuisance. Local chat is peaceful, no ePeens are flying across the hull and you get to chill while staying alert at the same time. An eye on the D-Scan, a nice chat with friends... ah, I can't wait to go back. Plus, there's plenty of non-mining activies you can engage in to maintain a truly diverse yet nearly Bhuddistic lifestyle.

There is nothing wrong with using T2 barges as long as you take proper precautions. ;)

Ideally one wants a small w-space system so that dscan covers everything, otherwise you need a (cloaked) scout on the other side of the system doing dscan constantly too.
I constantly hit dscan and never AFK. If I spot somebody on dscan, I'm entering warp just as they land in the grav. Only cloaked ships are a real threat.
I've been attacked a few times, but so far none have been successful. Some people hate my Hulk fit, as it isn't optimal for mining (they'd rather mine more and consider losing a Hulk as acceptable), but it has survived solo stealth attacks. Don't forget to overheat the hardeners and use the ECM drones.
If there is more than one person, or a small gang attacking you, you are toast regardless of how you fit.
I also use a Rorqual (safe in the POS force field) with Siege and Armor warfare links, which adds some EHP too.

On my alts corp they ran a small WH mining op which was a success. BC went in first to clear sleepers then the T1 barges went in and cleared the Arkonor. There was a couple of scouts watching, with spam dscan happening. Entire op finished with no incidents and a ton of Arkonor.

The problem with mining in WH is sheer volume of harvested product.
To comparison - full hulk cargobay = ~20M ISK worth of orez.
Full tengu cargobay = ~5B ISK worth of salvage and blue shards.
U get the picture, no?

For mining in w-space/null-space you want a Rorqual compressing the ores. [None] |

D-Scan doesn't solve everything. In some cases, you can be ambushed by a gang who has previously scanned down the sites and bookmarked them. Then, they use a covert ops to locate which site you are at. No probes needed. For T3s, they won't even need to decloak to warp to you, although other ships generally will. In any case, the gang will be on scan for a very short period, probably appearing with a HIC.
Takes some patience, but it does happen

No, it's true that if anyone is going to put that much effort into it you're bound to get jumped. However, the vast majority of times simply watching D-scan (and making sure it's set to see probes) will be sufficient. Holes to hi-sec, for esample, only last a day, so normally you won't see people put in that much effort to set up an ambush in a wormhole where they're as likely to be the victims.
