Proper Shield Booster Size for a Maelstrom?

Novah Soul	Posted - 2011.03.04 21:24:00 - [1] A friend of mine asked me earlier and I didn't know so I figured Id ask for them: Should a PvE fit Maelstrom be fit with a X-Large Shield booster or just a Large? The XL grants 1 minute or so less cap but greatly increases the tank... which would be more important? Sorry for the noob questions but I know very little about shield tanking, lol. Also, would a Boost Amplifier make much of a difference?

Kneebone Heathens' Harbor	Posted - 2011.03.04 21:49:00 - [3] Edited by: Kneebone on 04/03/2011 21:51:27 Depends one a few things, but typcailly a Navy XL booster, Cap Booster, 3 hardners, and an AB is the standard Malestrom midslot. Those with more money will slot in a complex Large booster. You can get away with cap 400's then and run the tank longer. Here is the Sansha setup I use since Sansha are the hardest to tank. With AB off and Cap Booster on it is barely cap stable at 715 EFT tanked DPS and spits out 765 DPS with Arty + Drones with this config. 30kmish Optimal with 55km fall off with short range ammo. This fit has enough that you can use T2 in the lows over faction Gyros and TE. You can use whatever projectile rig you want really, I like tracking myself. If you remove both Shield Boost Amps you're still boosting in excess 100% of your shield HP, so you could fit some more resist mods or an AB in those 2 slots.

Large and XL have the same efficiency, that means that HP boosted per cap amount is exactly the same and as cap is your limiting variable they, overall, boost the same. However, the XL can boost a whole lot more in those "oh crap" moments, where you really need it and all it requires is a bit more thought into working your booster. Too bad Crystals/Blue Pill don't work on capital mods, a full Estamel fit in EFT tanks three times as much.
