Edited by: cyndrogen on 07/03/2011 06:06:41 Now that we have INCURSION carbon characters all dolled up and looking sweet it would be really nice to actually have agents that "talk" and tell you about the mission.
Imagine each time you accept a mission you also have the option to watch a cinematic cutscene (realtime no pre rendered stuff).
I mean how hard can it be to have some fun recording voices for the agents?
I'm sure there are plenty of talented CCP people who can do voice overs for free.

This has been asked for before and it has three problems.
1) As CCP change and add new missions you need the same person available to do the cut screen. If they have not available do they replace all the voice acting for that agent or just one mission which would be a little funny. This is the problem they had with AURA, the person who originally voice it was not available so they had to replace the voice.
2) Language, its relatively easy to convert a missions text into another language, not so easy finding someone who speaks the language fluently who is willing to read all the text for the cut scene.
3)Bloat, give that this would cause a large increase in CCP bandwidth bill trying to download them in real time. It would make sense for them to either cashe them on peoples machines or do them as a separate download. Given their are hundreds of agents giving out hundreds of missions (remember if a mission is in a different system it needs its own cut scene to include the system name) its going to start taking a lot of space.
I suspect that their are a lot more agents then CCP staff so you would also have voices duplicated or have to bring in outside voices (fans?). Each person doing all the missions, will take days. I think most people would agree that the Dev's and the GM would be better spent developing/helping players respectively.
Know if CCP do for voice synthesis that they did with carbon, CCP would only have to assign values to each agent and they could synthesis a realistic voice to read the mission script avoiding both problems. Add voice recognition and a tie on a Eve customised version of Google translate, we have a universal translator for Eve. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

this would be intresting, but i think that it will be too much work to put in a feature people will quickly skip over for the much more quickly digested text box mission form.
i personally would get annoyed with it as soon as the shinyness wore off.

Hello Guys,
I think if CCP really wants to transport the storyline and acquire new players, they have do something like that and I would really like to see that :-)
I really loved the Mass Effect Story-Telling-Way.

Just crowdsource it, have 'fans' record their own voiceovers and upload them to an official server, have a basic screening from a CCP staff member to ensure it complies with the appropriate age rating. Then let players vote their favourites up blah blah blah

While I do support the idea, there are so many more important things that need attention that I think this will have to be down the road a bit.
You wouldnt stream such content, all of the audio and animations would be part of the preload.

You do realize you don't have to have a cut scene for every mission. How about a couple for epic missions, a couple of cosmos missions, special event missions.
This removes the problems that have been listed so far and by keeping it small and simple and you can have some cool immersion with limited sets of missions.

You still have the problem of having to have the same person voice any new missions for the agent or abandon any time of agent constituency. For example your first mission of the day has the agent talking in a Scottish accent, then the next Australian.
I did consider that as a way that CCP could do it, but rejected it as due to the above.
It would work for items that CCP plan as one off's such as special events were the NPC's would never be reused. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |
