Pilots, save the repetitive words for another thread. Hell, just use your weapons instead of trying to come up with some witty snide remark to show off your eloquent use of wordplay. I'd like to talk about recipes from the Federation, or Matari culture! But, as the topic says, there is an 80% chance of verbal bashing, and I'll be amazed if it doesn't happen.

If you have any to share I would be greatly interested. I might even be able to dig a few up myself, though I'm not much of a cook myself.

My mother's "Fire and Ice" salad below:
1 head of lettuce 1 bottle of jin-mei stir fry sauce 1 skirt steak flank 4 oz true gallente salad dressing --
let skirt steak marinade overnight in a bag with the jin-mei stir fry sauce, the hotter the better. in the morning, cut into small strips. Note that one skirt steak should yeild 8-12 strips of decent size. cook in a pan until well done. set aside. remaining sauce can be either disposed or used as a glaze for other things.
cut lettuce with a long knife into many strips. place in a bowl, toss with skirt steak, dress with dressing
simple, elegant and oh so spicy. --

We served this at the private opening of "The Razor's Edge" it was very popular...its Jin-mei fusion cooking.
(Long-Limbed Roe Lemongrass Tartlets)
1/2 Pound Long Limbed Roe, picked over 4 Lemongrass Stalks, white parts only - finely chopped 4 Eggs 1/2 Cup Heavy Cream 2 Scallions, white and green parts sliced 1/8 inch thick and reserved separately Salt and Freshly Ground White Pepper
1/2 Pound Frozen Puff Pastry Dough - thawed Preparation: Combine the Roe, lemongrass, eggs, cream and scallions in a large bowl. Season with the salt and white pepper. Mix and set aside. Preheat the oven to 350 F. Unfold the sheet of puff pastry and cut six 3x3 inch squares. Prick the squares at 1/2 inch intervals. Spray a tin with 2 inch cups with nonstick cooking spray and press a pastry square into each. Line each tartlet with foil and fill with uncooked beans to keep the pastry from buckling. Bake for about 10 minutes or until the sides of the pastry are golden. Remove the foil and continue to bake for another 5 minutes or until the bottoms are golden. Divide the Roe mixture among the tartletÆs and bake for 12 to 15 or just until the tip of a knife or cake tester inserted in the filling comes out clean. Serve warm or at room temperature

I have an amazing Jin Mei dish.
Ingredients:
6 Intaki Oranges (1/2 cup of juice)
1/2 cup of poultry stock
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 tablespoon of soy sauce
1 teaspoon of cooking wine rice
1 teaspoon of corn starch
A slice of orange skin
3 slices of ginger.
Half a kilogram of poultry.
Instructions:
Fry the chicken for 20 minutes in the wok until it reaches a golden brown color. Meanwhile squeeze the juice out of the oranges and add each of the remaining ingredients and stir gently. Heat the sauce carefully and keep stirring until it reaches a nice texture and thickness. Meanwhile heat up oil on a separate pan, chop up the orange skin into very small strips and fry them with the ginger. After they become golden add them to the sauce and keep stirring.
When the chicken is ready you must add the sauce and stir until its well absorbed. A very tasty, simple to make dish that can please any appetite.
Good day.

Personally, I find many of the Gallente recipes which have earned cluster-wide fame to be a tad overwrought. I am prone to indigestion, so the heavy use of spices and oils doesn't agree with me. Not that all Gallente dishes are prepared thus, but that is what most refer to when speaking of Gallente food. Having been brought up on Ni-Kunni faire, I prefer their more moderate, reverant treatment of the ingredients. However, adding a bit of Gallente-style creativity can really bring God's love out in a traditionally Amarrian dish. I have done much experimenting along those culinary lines, and such fusion dishes make up the entirety of my galley's offerings.
My favorite recipe is a simple black bean soup with just enough spice added to make it delightfully flavorful while still being light and easy on the innards.
Bring 2 pounds of black beans to a boil, immediately remove them from the heat, and let them soak in the warm water overnight--it is preferable if you can get them just to the cusp of fermentation. The next day, rinse them and place them in 12 cups of fresh water (with a bit of meat bouillon added if you prefer a bit of extra flavor). Cook them slowly for an hour.
Meanwhile, sautee 3 red onions, 6 garlic cloves, and a green bell pepper, all finely chopped, in half a cup of good olive oil for near to 5 minutes.
Once the beans are soft, take out a few ladles-full, puree them, and then dump them back into the pot (this is to thicken the liquid--how much you puree depends on how thick you want it to be). Also dump in all of the sauteed vegetables. At this point, add a teaspoon of thyme, half a teaspoon of cloves, half a teaspoon of oregano, 2 bay leaves, 3 teaspoons of sugar, 4 teaspoons of vinegar, a wee bit of cumin, and as much salt and pepper as you like. Simmer this for around another hour, take out the bay leaves, and enjoy.
It amazes me how much spacefaring folk rely on processed and packaged foods when it is so easy to set up an ideal preservation environment on any sizable vessel. All it takes is one planetside farm to generate a steady supply of fresh, delicious ingredients sufficient to feed a small-sized organization, and it is more cost-effective then purchasing all rations outright if you know what you are doing. And any sort of ship-board biomass reconstitution system makes me shudder.

Another favorite from Master Chef Lu at "The Razor's Edge"...
Jin-Mei Coleslaw with Tangy Rice Vinegar Dressing
Ingredients - 4 Cups Red Cabbage, shredded 1/2 Cup Carrot, shredded 2 Bok Choy Stalks with Leaves 2 Cups Bean Sprouts 2 Teaspoons Olive Oil 1/4 Cup Jin-Mei Rice Vinegar 3/4 Teaspoon Sesame Oil 2 Teaspoons Fresh Cilantro 1 Tablespoon Toasted Sesame Seeds Preparation: Wash the vegetables in a colander and drain thoroughly. Shred the cabbage and carrots. Separate the bok choy stalks and leaves. Cut the stalks diagonally and cut the leaves straight across. Toss the shredded cabbage, carrots, bok choy and mung bean sprouts in a large bowl. Set aside. Stir the olive oil into the rice vinegar. Stir in the sesame seed oil. Place the dressing in the bottom of a bowl and add the vegetables. Toss again. Add the cilantro and sprinkle the toasted sesame seeds on.

I'm an incredibly frugal guy, even by non-capsuleer standards. Simple foods out of a can or box suit me just fine. I did pick up a way to make the otherwise flavorless "MRE: Pator Steak Dinner" much better while in TLF.
Hydrate the steak patty of course, but then add just a bit of margarine and some Amarrian traditional seasoned salt, plus a flavored herb of your choice. For the mashed potatoes, also add margarine, salt, and also cheese. Don't mess with the side vegetables: those are beyond any help. Then you're done! Very simple, and while fattening (I prefer "filling") it will keep your stomach full for longer flights.

Oh my I completely misread this at first, I thought you wanted to know to cook Matari people, haha, and I thought you were being very unfair asking for no verbal abuse from that. After reading this a second time, I have to change my answer a bit..
As a child of the mandate I can't really be sure what they eat in the republic but if their ships are any indication even though it may taste good it won't look great. As for the federation skip the meal and go for the spirits, many fine wines are on the market in the federation if you have the isk.

Drastic measures! Couldn't you have:
1)Set a distress signal on auto-repeat 2)Get in your pod (it had to have survived the crash, or else the next step would happen automatically), activate self-destruct 3)Have your mind transferred to a fresh clone, with a free rookie frigate 4)Attempt a rescue yourself, if no word from SoE came

Ben,
I have some pretty awesome favorites from the Baatsu pantry if you are interested. Keep in mind, because of the nomadic nature of the Kyaraban, and our unwavering dedication to obsolete tradition, alot of the items on our menu focus on food preservation techniques that do not necessarily diminish freshness or flavor.
I only ask before presenting because you requested certain ethnicities, but if you like I would be more than happy to offer them up. I find that the sustenance of a people is often the shining star and lynchpin of their culture.

I must say that I am disappointed to find a lack of interest in the traditional dishes of other cultures.
We Khanid, for example, have a long tradition of preparing very hearty dishes that are as tasty as they are nourishing. Some of our oldest come from a time long ago when a Khanid was expected to learn to live off the land and provide a meal for the warriors that were with him.
One of our oldest is a personal favorite; a dish called ôhorhog.ö
Horhog is a traditional Khanid meat dish, which is very useful if you find yourself on an alien world with limited resources. It is not a dish for two. It should be made at least for 5 people. Horhog cooking is a lot of fun. It entails the spirit of togetherness and sets the beginnings of friendship. The cooking process is simple at first glance, however, it requires practice and intuition. Meat cut in large chunks is cooked with hot stones in a tightly closed aluminum can until it forms a hearty stew. If aluminium is unavailable many other types of metal will suffice including standard arrmor ship plating. When the cooking is done, the stones are taken out first and given to all horhog eaters. While still hot and greasy, stones should be rolled between palms or held with fingers. Rolling or holding stones with hands is supposed to be good for health because Khanid of long ago believed that the heat and grease from just cooked meat eliminated fatigue and boosted stamina. Depleted uranium shells can be used as a replacement for the stones while cooking but should not be given to the eaters afterward.
Ingredients (10 servings): 1 half medium sheep or equivilent Water Potatoes (optional) Carrots (optional) Yellow turnips (optional) Bell pepper (optional) Garlic sprouts (optional)
Seasonings: Salt Pepper (optional) Onion (optional) Garlic (optional) Spices (optional)
Cooking gear: 20-liter aluminum can or plating 20-25 medium-sized smooth stones (10 sm x 10 sm) Firewood or hand laser
Cooking time: Approximately 2.5 hours
First heat stones on firewood on open fire or with a laser. It is important to select the right stones, as not all stones are good for cooking horhog. Stones must be river stones that are smoothly shaped and medium sized. Stones must be thoroughly heated until almost red. If heated correctly, stones usually do not retain any smoke and have a clean surface.
While stones are heated, prepare meat for cooking. Cut meat in large pieces with bones. Have a slave wash and peel potatoes, carrots, turnips and onions. Some people add also garlic sprouts.
Pour 4 liters of water (cold or warm) in a 20-liter aluminum can. The amount of water depends on how much bouillon you would like to have in your horhog.
Put seasonings in water. Then start adding meat layering it with hot stones. If you are cooking it together with vegetables, put them always on top.
Close can tightly and leave the meat to cook for an hour and a half. The meat is supposed to cook on its own purely by the heat of hot stones. However, it sometimes needs additional heating, which you can provide by putting the can on slow open fire or using a laser on a low setting. Extra heating may be required due to several reasons. The meat may not be properly layered with hot stones or the number of stones may not be enough for the amount of meat being cooked. It's tricky but well worth the effort.
When the cooking is done, carefully open the can and let the vapors out. First, pull out the stones and pile them aside. Meat and bouillon are usually served separately. Distribute Radaway or similar medicine if you've used depleted uranium shels instead of river rocks.
I have it on very good authority that our King still favors this dish and prepares it himself during feast days. So try it and enjoy and then you can say you eat like a king!

Very nice meals, I must say. But most Matari do not eat this. If there is a main Matari meal, that is served cold for the majority of my people it is this receipt:
1 liter of water 1 peck of corn or Amarrian wheat 1 pint of salt 3 spoons of bitter bark which is rich of the vitamin "C" and other vitamins 30 grams of dried beans (if you are lucky!)
Stirr it together, let it soak water for one day. Eat. Or die. If alive: work. It's too much to die and too few to live.

Oh Alicia. maybe you should move out of the Republic if they're still feeding you so poorly.
here's a little Matari recipie my mom taught me. You can use most any combination of meat and spices. on my homeworld, we have these very large serpents. Thier meat tender and tasty and the venom is easily reduced to make a wonderul sauce.
MATARI SNAKE HERDERÆS PIE
INGREDIENTS ò1 1/2 lbs ground Neyi Serpent ò1 onion chopped ò1-2 cups vegetables - chopped carrots, corn, peas ò1 1/2 - 2 lbs potatoes (3 big ones) ò8 tablespoons butter (1 stick) ò1/2 cup beef broth ò1 teaspoon Neyi Venom Sauce òSalt, pepper, other seasonings of choice METHOD 1 Peel and quarter potatoes, boil in salted water until tender (about 20 minutes). 2 While the potatoes are cooking, melt 4 Tablespoons butter (1/2 a stick) in large frying pan. 3 SautT onions in butter until tender over medium heat (10 mins). If you are adding vegetables, add them according to cooking time. Put any carrots in with the onions. Add corn or peas either at the end of the cooking of the onions, or after the meat has initially cooked. 4 Add ground snakesautT until no longer pink. Add salt and pepper. Add Neyi venom sauce a cup of snake broth and cook, uncovered, over low heat for 10 minutes, adding more snake broth as necessary to keep moist. 5 Mash potatoes in bowl with remainder of butter, season to taste. 6 Place snake and onions in baking dish. Distribute mashed potatoes on top. Rough up with a fork so that there are peaks that will brown nicely. You can use the fork to make some designs in the potatoes as well. 7 Cook in 400 degree oven until bubbling and brown (about 30 minutes). Broil for last few minutes if necessary to brown.
Serves four.

Um...Well i don't know who your master was, but he should have gotten beaten with a warm soup ladel. Everyone I know eats pretty well. I mean, you can't be an effective worker if you're being starved. And if everyone in the Empire was starving, there would be no Empire. So you must have gotten the short end of the stick...or menu.

In fact, I'm not eating poorly. But my breakfast is not much different from that slave meal. Nothing bad about soaked wheat. But of cause you have to put some love in it to make it yummy. Like instead of water you take milk, you mix in different kind of cereals like oat, rye and other, add in some sesame, different kind of nuts, dried fruit and raisin. It's also possible to put some fresh fruit in it, but I prefer dried.
A Sebiestor special is to cook this up and eat it warm.
Well, it's a good mix of proteins, vitamin, minerals, fat and most of the things you'll need without being too heavy in the morning.
It's just that you can't live just only with this meal. You need at least a second one that is different. And of cause there's too much salt and bitter bark in the slave meal.
Actually I am always a bit irritated by the receipts I find that are far away from the things that I usually eat. Instead of working on meals that are full of frills I prefer to work and change on the receipts that are the usual meals. And surprisingly often not the frilled "haute couture" dishes are the best, but the simple ones that are well prepared.
And this has nothing to do with "eating poorly" it's just that Long Limb Roes don't satisfy the hunger. And I always stop eating before I'm replete. Well, mostly. Because there's nothing wrong with hunger. It's a great motivation. Well, there nothing wrong with it if you can decide this for yourself.
Hunger makes your senses keen and your body able and willing to run. It makes you live more healthy and many of the illness of fat people won't come down on you. On average you live 20-25% longer if you are not overfed.
But people fear hunger. Most people I know never have been hungry at all. Have you met people that stopped eating for -say- two weeks? There is no problem for the human body to not eat for that time and even four weeks is no real problem if you feed your body enough water and minerals, which means you have to drink broth from time to time to feed this to your system.
People fear what they do not know. Nobody knows real hunger (besides slaves). Give it a try.
After that your view on food has changed. I do not propagate to hunger yourself down to one of those Gallente model skeletons. That's something different. I just say that there is time for eating and time for fast for the human body. And that this is no bad thing at all if done controlled.
Free yourself. Try something new. So this is my next receipt:
Eat nothing for a month, just drink water and broth. And drink some fruit juice for vitamin supply. After two weeks begin to do this carefully and watch yourself. Because two weeks is fine and easy, four weeks is for pros.
After that time slowly begin to eat again. You will feel good like you had a holiday. -- FREEDOM, PUNK & AUTOCANNONS
