So, I just found out today that using containers in cargo holds are completely useless against cargo scanner.
Why is this CCP? I know you love piracy, however, there needs to be some kind of counter, or cargo scanners need to be fixed to reflect their description of being able to see inside the cargohold. If containers are being used, most people would understand this to mean that you can see the containers, which is one level of scan, not the can's contents which would be beyond one level of scanning capability. If two scanners are used, then they should be able to see through containers.
And, being able to use an orca is no use to a lot of players. So, that is clearly not an appropriate answer. Nor is a freighter, since both require a great deal of SP investment that I don't think new players want to train for those hulls just to be safer from gankers. For the people who want to say 'well just tank your ship', that won't always save you. Piracy needs to be hard. Right now it's just a walk in the park on trade routes in highsec.

Use alt, make a courier contract of what you want to ship. Stick that in a can.. Ship away since it cant be scanned.

You shouldn't AFK haul if your cargo is valuable. Not being able to scan contents of containers was a bug which CCP fixed a few years ago.

I was not the victim. I have actually never afk hauled before, and in this case, my corpmate wasn't either. Also, making the contract I would think makes you just as much of a target seeing as those can be seen through as well, and if you are going through that much effort, you're likely to get ganked on principle. Also, not everyone has an alt to do the contracting with.
Some corpmates tested the cargo scanning today. According to one of the 2003 players I know, it has apparently always been that containers in cargoholds don't conceal cargo, which is why I am asking why CCP did this in the first place.

Maybe because cargo containers aren't used for concealing cargo but for organizing it?
Like a poster said earlier -use alt -put stuff in can -make courier contract -??? -Unscannable. Profit!

Use orca then nobody can scan nor able to gank you with less than 10 people.

If you can scan through the shielding and hull of a ship then it's hardly unreasonable to expect the ship scanners to be able to scan through a metal can.
Also expecting it to somehow protect your hauler is laughable. If you are carrying valuables use insta's, cloak warping and perhaps a more survivable ship. ~ "I've been called the Women's Auxiliary of the Brat Pack." |
