First of all, I'm not sure in which section this belongs, ships or warfare and tactics, so sorry if it's in the wrong place;-).
Now, if you were to take down a PoS in high-sec, what ships would be most suited for the job...? Of cource I do have some idea's, but I'm curious about your thoughts.

Amarr battleships. Lack of ammo to waste on something as boring as POS bashing.
Plus, if the tower has very little in the way of guns you can practically afk the whole process :) ---------- Who, me? |

Edited by: Hidden Snake on 10/03/2011 09:58:39 took down only 3 high sec POSes as FC in my eve life.
But recommended setup is 5-8 guardians + 25 baddons.
In case it is super ganked death star u need snipers to weakn defences first.
if it is failfited and no POS gunners present u can go with asorted BS fleet and make warpins on clusters of guns.
Properly defended high sec pos with 3-5 POS gunners on field and some support fleet (even sniper hacs warpin around) can make your day lemon way.

Alright, thanks for the advice guys. Was planning on a sniper fit baddon allready, but I guess pulses will do with guardian support.

Death Star (All Guns/Scrams/Neuts) use Sniper Abaddons/Maelstroms
ECM (D!ck Star) use Sentry Drone Rigged Domi's (With Sentry Drones and Rails/RR) it will take a while, but it works.
Dumb Star (POS Online, Defenses Offline) use a 4 BCU'd Raven Blob (Needs 2 Missle Velocity Rigs for a Large)
Logi is an after thought, use the utility high on the battleships for reppers, in the 50 POS sieges I've been in, I've only been attacked by defenders on 2. The more damage the better, having a lachesis or two for tackle is always nice, and a falcon to jam enemy tackle couldn't hurt (POS bashing BS's are usually not setup for PvP, and typically max dps). A nice fleet of 40-50 can reinforce a large tower in just over an hour.

Damn, will take some time then. I wonder why they don't allow dreads in highsec... it's not like they would be used against anything but PoS's.

Yeah, I can't possibly imagine. Hmmm, maybe the fact that a gank dread can kill a freighter solo with seven volleys.
Maybe thats why.
Or maybe its because CCP just doesn't want capitals in highsec?
Guess we'll never know, huh?

EVE-O forums will make a believer out of you yet!
Also seconding the recommend for Abaddons. Lock tower, press F1, go AFK, run missions, manage market orders, etc.

If you don't mind actually sitting at the computer while you play the game, 3 to 5 high-skill Torp Ravens basically dish out the same DPS as a Revelation in siege if you're shooting at a Minmatar (especially w/50% EM and 25% Thermal resist), Caldari (50% thermal resist), or Gallente tower (25% thermal resist).
Yes you have to manage ammo and reloads, but you can shoot at the lowest resist of the shield. This would also be beneficial if you have a lot of corp mates that can fly Ravens, but not the Amarr battleships. When it comes to structure bashing, nothing really beats the Raven for effective DPS.

Agreed.
When I used to highsec POS bash, my alliance took out about twenty RR mid-range BS (Apocs with pulses, the like) and we just sat right on top of whatever armament they had and killed it off. Then we shot the tower. Then the tower reinforced. Out of all the times we shot highsec towers, only two fights ever happened at one, and one was made an absolute joke of by the FC of the other fleet who decided to use smartbombs in highsec. One of us warped a neutral alt in, it got smartbombed, concord showed up, wtf-****d them. Other time, they came in at range thinking we couldn't hit them, we ****d them.
tl;dr: Use midrange RR BS. You only need to be able to hit 30km, so there. "The point of war is not to die for your country, its to make the other bastard die for his." |

Raven, Typhoon, Dominix and Abaddon are ok, but nothing beats the Armageddon. Lasers and full flight of sentries make it well past 1000+ dps on the tower and you never have to reload. Even has a utility high-slot for the RR.

Unless you're shooting a Minmatar tower, and then you're going to be there for a much longer time than you could have. Lasers against a Minnie tower basically suffer over a 40% damage reduction based on just the standard resists, for example. The ability to shoot into the lowest resist can be huge when you consider how many shield hitpoints towers have.

1) The sentries are completely selectable damage, similar to missiles, but do not require ammo nor reloads. 2) People fit resists mods to their tower so not to leave gaping resist holes.

have killed a bunch of towers and even with low em/therm resist the arma could not beat a dps fitted raven , with the right skils and a rig ya can use t2 torps on large towers (shieldstats of tower says 30k but its actualy around 27k)
dps on eft might be great on a arma but arma doesnt have same dmg every hit while the raven yust does max dmg with there missiles every cycle
if posseble i like to go for arma though les ammo and more easier but only if em/therm resist is low
for raven i also like to use my G15 keyboard to autofire ;o so then no reload to do aswel(afaik thats legal)

I have a baddon specifically kit for sitting afk shooting pos. 1298 DPS w/multi frequency, spikes upwards of 7k on wrecking hits in grouped mode.

You are correct, but the ability to shoot against the lowest resist can make a huge difference in the time it takes to reinforce the shield. Using the appropriate sentry drones obviously helps, but on a Geddon with sentries, 70-80%% of your firepower is the guns, which are restricted to 2/3rds EM, 1/3rd Thermal. I suppose that if its a tower with 43/43/43/50 and two of the 43% resists are EM/Thermal, then you'll be able to realize 100% of your firepower. It has advantages for what is usually a very time consuming process, but for a player that doesn't mind managing the ammo, a Raven can do it quicker. Its the same principle that makes the Phoenix the best structure-bashing dread.
